Woodland Walk by fishers

Woodland Walk

One of the things I find if I look back through the years at my old photos is that there are places that I once used to visit regularly that I haven't been to for a very long time, and this shot , taken a couple of days ago, is of one such place.

Knavesmire Wood is situated on the southern side of York, immediately to the south of the racecourse.

Knavesmire wood is an area of 13.8 acres (5.6 hectares) mainly consisting of mature broadleaf trees. The main track through the trees runs between two rows of mature lime trees, and there is a network of other paths to explore.

My attention was drawn to this wood because I wanted to find a woodland with bluebells that didn't involve too much of a walk, since my achilles tendon still hasn't recovered from the damage I did to it at the end of March. The Woodland Trust mentioned bluebells in this wood, so that made the decision for me. Sadly, there were plenty of bluebells, but they were not the rather delicate native flower with the curved over stem, so the search for native flowers will continue. The acilles tendon behaved well and we ended up walking further than planned (probably over 2 miles) with only a little stiffness at the end. Hopefully that means some more serious walking will be possible in a few weeks.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

It was lovely to walk through this woodland, after a very long time. The bright sunlight through the trees added to the beauty of the place. It probably won't be several years before I visit again!
