St John’s Cathedral Valletta. by foxes37

St John’s Cathedral Valletta.

This lavishly baroque cathedral was packed with visitors yesterday when we visited. It was built in the 1580s for the Knights of St John and is, apparently, one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in the whole of Europe. Lavish describes it perfectly but if I am honest I prefer our beautiful East Anglian medieval churches. But there’s no denying it’s absolutely stunning.
Malta. All this gold leaf!! I have to admit to preferring simple East Anglian churches.
