August 20

This was actually from the 21st as I took no pictures of people on Thursday. But it belongs more to the work week than the other picture I picked. This was the freshman convocation, which I dutifully attended Friday afternoon, having determined that my main job this semester was to be a presence, a presence that people know and are happy to have around. That seems like a weird goal, but it's so tangible to me that I know it's the right one.

Here's the main reason I've been able to take pictures: I've got my camera with me. I'm using the camera bag as my purse...

It was a long day. I woke early and couldn't go back to sleep, so I was peeling pears at 4:30 in the morning! Got one batch done, then went to work and was a super-tornado (but a presence nonetheless). In the evening Maia came over for a farewell dinner. He decided that he wanted individual dinners rather than everyone at once. So we have people over every day until he goes to school next Wednesday. But I was home and did not think to take a single picture! Maybe I'll do better on Sunday and Monday.
I'm amused by the 3rd girl on the right (middle) She has my "it's Monday already" face. Wonder what the gentleman is telling her...nicely captured crowd shot!

Ahh, you enable our people watching addiction with this one. I like looking at how many people are watching you take a photo, and I can just imagine the following conversation -
white hair man: Excuse me ma'am, but there's a foul odor about, did you perhaps...
offended lady: Are you serious? how rude of you to insinuate such a thing, my word!
white hair man: Well dear lady, heat does rise you know.
offended lady: and you know, he that smelt it surely dealt it, now bug off.

I like the lady at the back near the door, she is praying for deliverance, a great people watching capture.

I use my camera bag as a wallet too! We're two of a kind!
