Tools of the trade

A preponderance of red appears in my pencil holder, a baby’s silver cup long unpolished sitting on a desk long undusted. The pens, however, regularly mark papers in an ink that will stand out from the student’s work. The occasional switch to a less punitive green refreshes, but the special pen is soon lost.
great image - i use lots of different colours to mark the work - and yes they discourage red nowadays - it amuse me because no matter the colour you are still correcting and red does stand out best

Love the cup! The red ... not so much. Not that I got a lot of red marks all those years ago, but the ones I got, they hurt. Imagine that! Red as an incentive to DO BETTER!

Oh how I love your "long unpolished" and "long undusted" image! I don't know anyone who uses the word preponderance either except me! ....and now you! Fabulous photo!

LOL! I'll post a picture of mine, Francoise! As an elementary teacher, I use hot pink, purple, bright green, orange, etc! The antique baby cup makes it a fav for me! I also love the wild scissors!

How fun! I try to grade in green, but somehow, the red creeps back into the grading world all the time. Do they really feel the difference if it is graded in green vs. red? :)

Don't you ever feel tempted to put a big red X on the whole page and write "Total Crap" or some such? I know I would... good job I never took up teaching then ;-))

Who knew a dusty desk, life-worn baby cup, and an interesting assortment of pens, scissors and pencils could be so eloquent?
