This is for the challenge from Monique to find something that shows the less pretty side of nature. It's been a very interesting experience to look at everything and not find anything ugly (I decided to skip scatological possibilities).
You have learned well, grasshopper. Nothing is ugly. If we open our eyes and hearts, we will see the beauty. I get so excited when I see the work you've created from my challenge. Your challenge opened my eyes, too. Thank you so much, Francoise.
A certain demise, I would agree... When I enlarged my image today, I, too, saw the darker side of nature, but he was kind enough not to get graphic before my eyes!
@joansmor The troll who lives under the bridge is magnificent as is all the world of nature, as @francoise constantly shows us... it's the Internet trolls who are bl***y ugly!
@vignouse There is a childhood story I loved about the troll who lived under the bridge and frightened the billy goats. It was this I referred to and assumed @francoise was aware of this story. Not an insult to her picture which is funny and adorable.
interesting to see this shot - there has been a great deal of "road-kill" in our area recently - deer, badgers, foxes and pheasants - and I have often thought of photographing but cannot bring myself to do it - well done for taking that step
I had a picture a while ago that featured the rest of the lunch for some kind of bird of pray - a mouse head, to be precise. I found it just beautiful, with the sun hitting a little ear... but I hesitated first to post it. I love this one! Not only for its "reality", but also the color shift from lighter foreground to the darker background, as if taking the eyes into the dark but saying - you stop here, you've had your warning.
You know, Joan Robillard challenged me to take photos of ugly last spring, and I have to say, it was really hard! As I went in search of ugly, I found so much beauty! How interesting...
That being said, a couple weeks ago I was driving to a client meeting, and on the side of the road was a deer that had an arrow sticking out of it. It was dead by that time, thank God, but to me that was ugly. Totally ugly. And it made me mad. A scar from long ago, to be sure, but I still believe that if you can't be sure to kill an animal practically immediately, then put your bow and arrow away. Yes, I know everyone can't be 100% accurate 100% of the time, but it still makes me so mad to witness suffering, even after the fact.

Ok. I'm off my soap box now. :-(
