Kingfisher. by gamelee

Kingfisher.

While I was out walking at a local nature reserve I spotted this kingfisher sat on a branch over a stream some distance away, to far away to get a shot.

I know that they patrol the same area, so when the bird moved on I went and sat near where I'd seen it hoping that if I kept still it may perch on the same branch on its return patrol. The area is very overgrown.

After about an hour it did come back, but sat some distance away. This shot was taken with a 300mm lens at ISO 3200. I think I'm going to go back and try again.
Excellent capture Lee. They're fast little birds and I know how difficult they are to photograph. A definite FAV for me.

What a great capture of him. Lovely sharp focus against that back softness. I am quite jealous, have hardly seen one let alone got a shot! Fav

Wow, well done for capturing him! They may be easy to spot because of their bright plumage but boy are they quick!

Oh great shot Lee, that plan sounds very good, its what I have being doing for a while now, I just can't get as close as this. They are creatures of habit and like you say, will return to the same places. One spot I knew they used, and very close as well, the branch has gone, and they now sit further away. Might get my wellies and try and stick another large branch there.

Beautiful colours, I think they are a relative of our kookaburras.
