Normally the water level would almost be at the trees.
It's interesting to note that this site in the early 1800s and before two large embankments were built, was a valley with a hamlet named Alance at its centre. If you can imagine the water in my photo being a clock face, at eleven is where the hamlet stood. There also stood a bridge, for this was where the river Yarrow entered the valley. When the water gets low like this the route that the river took can still be seen.
