I went to Trader Joe's to go grocery shopping and there were two sweet young ladies at the register when I checked out.
We got to talking and it came up that I lost my sweet Sophie Belle doggie two months ago. One rushed over to give me a small bouquet of flowers in honor of Sophie. How thoughtful of her to do that. Those are the flowers in the above photo. I have always loved the smell of carnations...a spicy fragrance.
The other young lady and I bonded over both being a Taurus (April-May) and how we both love the smell of a fresh basil plant...another spicy fragrance. I bought one to take home.
So, after that I decided to bake the Trader Joe's Meyer Lemon Cake and I added Meyer lemon zest from one of our home grown lemons. That is the cake in the above photo. It was delicious and didn't last long.
I will remember the young ladies kindness and cheerful spirit. A thank you for them.
Joni Mitchell is a favorite songwriter and singer of mine. She lived in Laurel Canyon, only 30 minutes from my home. So close, yet so far away.

Wonderful story. I wish there was a news channel that broadcasted stories like this all day instead of the insanity that gets promoted on all the others. Anyway...! This is a lovely shot and the bread looks delicious. So sorry to hear about Sophie and hope the kindness of "strangers" (no longer strangers now- you'll be looking for them every time you shop there!) eases your loss a bit. I played Court and Spark to death!! And Chelsea Morning has always been a favorite too.
What a lovely comment about your shopping visit and encounter with the young ladies it is nice to know unexpected kindness still exists . Your cake looks delicious one of my favourite flavours and carnations are a favourite too.

@wendyfrost Thank you, Wendy. It was a lovely unexpected surprise and nice to see their compassion. The cake was moist, easy and delicious. The carnations are a pretty color and smell divine. They are underrated and were more popular in the past.

I miss my Sophie so much. It has been two months. She was almost 17 and it was still not long enough. She was so precious and a sweet soul. Katniss and I both miss her terribly.
Joni Mitchell has been my favorite since high school. I have 8 of her CD's. She is a treasure and the best songwriter...a true poet.

I love Joni as well. She is singing again and still so full of life.
The ladies at the store were so kind and the cake was very moist, easy and delicious! It could easily pass for home made. :)
