I have found that every experience
is a form of exploration.

We decided to take a speedy fun boat called the Cyclone (middle photo and middle left) over to the west end of Catalina Island called Two Harbors. This rustic village is on a narrow strip of land that separates Isthmus Cove (above right) on the leeward side of the island from Catalina Harbor (pictured below right) on the windward side. There are about 80 residents year round and 300 during the summer. It is an area for outdoor activities...hiking, snorkeling, camping, kayaking, fishing, boating and world class scuba diving.
Catalina's world famous Buffalo Milk (upper left) is a Two Harbors original. First concocted more than 40 years ago by Harbor Reef bartender Michael Hoffler, this creamy blend of frozen delight goes down fast and carries a kick almost as hard as the island bovine that shares it's name. A Buffalo Milk: vodka, creme de cacao, creme de banana, coffee liquor and milk with whipped cream topping and a dusting of nutmeg.
On a final note, Two Harbors is where the actress Natalie Woods drowned 38 years ago under suspicious circumstances. Accidental drowning? I think not. She was in one of my favorite holiday movies, Miracle on 34th Street.
We walked the 1/2 mile from Isthmus Cove to Catalina Harbor, had lunch next to the beach at Harbor Sands (middle right) and enjoyed a few hours before returning to Avalon.
That looks amazing! And I will have everything except the creme de banane in that lovely concoction!
Loved Natalie Wood too. One of those mysteries where the facts will probably never be known.
What a beautiful place! I have always just heard about Catalina Island, not Two Harbors. That drink sounds divine. I’ve always believed Natalie was pushed over board.
