A brief history . . . St. Boniface Cathedral-Basilica, historical site of Manitoba, was established in 1818 in the Archdiocese of St. Boniface in Winnipeg. In 1968, the cathedral was damaged in a fire, destroying many features. Only the facade, sacristy, and the walls of the old church remained. In 1972, a new smaller cathedral was built behind the facade. Many notable people are buried in the cathedral cemetery including Louis Riel, a founder of the province of Manitoba.
How good that this beautiful façade remains from the fire. It certainly is lovely. Interesting that they've built the new one right behind this - like the connection.
@milaniet Thanks for your comment, Milanie! It certainly is wonderful that the facade remains. This is always one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Winnipeg.
@woodlandsphotog Thanks so much for your comment and fav, Richard! I had about four similar shots and the three birds in the upper right were the deciding factor in choosing this image. :-)
