Living on the Blanco River by gaylewood

Living on the Blanco River

As mentioned in previous posts, we are dog sitting this week. Our friends live in Wimberley, Texas - a charming town located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio, on the Blanco River. Last May, the town was hit by catastrophic flooding when the Blanco River crested at over 41 feet which is almost 30 feet above flood stage. I decided to take photos along that river today. Although you can see some of the flood damaged trees in this photo, the beautiful reflections are what pulled me in for a shot.
This is a really lovely spot in the world and a great picture of it.

A lovely scene. Hard to think that it was all affected by the floods. Enjoy your house sitting:)

What a beautiful setting this is (at least when the river isn't flooding - 30' above flood stage - wow!) You've caught those reflections so nicely and love that green grass color against those light blue skies. Following (which I thought I was already! - am loving your photography)

I've heard of Wimberley, but never been there - although it was on my list when living in Houston. Lovely capture - I hope the river behaves while you are there!

What a lovely place to dog sit at, bet it feels like a holiday. Looks to be a large river now without any flood water in it.

Beautiful composition and reflections, and the house back beyond the trees gives the picture depth. Fav for me.

The reflections of the trees are indeed lovely. We have similar today along our river in Bedford. It seems that everyone in town is out with their camera taking pictures as we have had a bit of flooding too. Your place looks very peaceful. Hope you are enjoying the week Gayle.

It is so peaceful and yes, so different to what it was with the floods. I hope your friends weren't affected! One good thing came out of last year...Lake Travis is almost 100% full for the first time in years and years.

@emrob Thanks so much for your comment, Mandy! Fortunately, their house and property were not affected by the floods but many of their friends were not as lucky. It's wonderful to hear that Lake Travis is almost at peak level, especially with warmer weather right around the corner. :-)
