I am in the learning stages of bird identification . . . I think these are Goldfinches but would like confirmation from any bird experts who happen to view this photo. This is the first day they have been active at the feeder continuously throughout the day.
@mej2011 Melissa, thank you so much for the comment, fav, and link! The All About Birds site is great! I found a photo and description for the Lesser Goldfinch, adult male "Texas Form" - that's the one! I appreciate your help! :-)
@merrelyn Thanks for commenting, Merrelyn! I didn't know anything about sock feeders until a friend recommended that I get one. I didn't see a lot of finches on it at first but yesterday they were at it the entire day and today they're back again. This is the first time I've had such a variety of feeders out at one time and I am totally amazed at the number and kinds of birds that are appearing. I am thoroughly enjoying the experience! :-)
Great shot Gayle, I was interested in the feeder too, I'm trying things to get the birds closer. I expect we'll see more shots of birds, looking forward to it.
I have learned so much here! I was pretty sure of the American Goldfinch - but the Lesser Goldfinch was a definite new one for me. Love these sock feeders - going to look into one for our backyard.
This is wonderful! I also love the volunteered information! I know we have finches, but nothing as colorful as this! I've never read of a sock feeder, but clearly, it might be worth a try (if not here, than in NS!)
@milaniet Thanks for your comment, Milanie! I am getting so much enjoyment out of feeding and taking photos of these different birds and also the squirrels. If I don't bring the feeders in at night the deer empty them in no time at all and tonight I left them all out a bit too long. I'll be filling them all again tomorrow morning. I was thinking maybe one evening I'll try to get some shots of the deer at the bird feeders. :-)
