I thought I'd get a posting up before the Hurricane hits. It's 5 hours away: rain coming down 1" an hour, 45 mph winds, a zillions roads flooded and closed, travel bans, power outages, live power lines coming down and causing house fires, National Guard all called to duty at their posts, and I'm alone with Elsie in my 3 family house (surrounded by massive trees!) which is kind of cool. It's weather chaos, and yet, only an hour ago I heard a Cardinal sounding off.
Anyway..... This is a macro from my Garden, slightly cropped, and the red you see is not part of the subject.
Greetings! I'm from Connecticut (USA) Photography is one of my lifelong passions (others including gardening, woodworking, history, and being a part...
@nicolecampbell Hi, my friend! All hell is breaking loose out there, and the brunt of it is still 5 hours away. Elsie is surprisingly calm, and for me, it's just an adventure. I've had to tape the windows because they would bow inward in a big gust. We'll be fine; this is my second Hurricane in this old house - she's as solid as a rock. If we have to, we can make ourselves comfortable in our big basement. No worries! Thanks for your well wishes, Les xx
p.s. You have to know that I want to be out there for some awesome Hurricane shots. But I'm intrepid, not nuts!
@glimpses - I can imagine what you are feeling and the noise that you must be hearing. I lived through Cyclone Tracey when I was 3 and to this day I hate thunderstorms. Please do stay inside and don't be tempted to pop out for a good shot!
Beautiful shot! Stay safe, Les. I'm in Eastern MA.......we're getting some heavy rain, moderate wind so far but we're just a little further north and east of you....and the storm seems to be tracking a little more west of here so we may not see so much of the damage though everyone is still staying prepared.
@nicolecampbell You know Nicole, I remember Cyclone Tracey; it was big news in 1974. I remember probably because it was Christmas and I felt so sorry for all those people; Darwin got flattened. I can't believe you experienced that; a Catergory 4 Cyclone. Makes Irene seem like a spring shower. I also will never forget that on the news, they overlayed a sattelite picture of the cyclone on a map of the U.S, and it covered more than half our whole country! Anyway.... Les x
@mwarren365 Boy, you couldn't be more right about the flooding; but thankfully, I'm far enough away from the rivers that I was fine. Scores of roads are still closed, if not from water, from the inches of mud left after the waters receded, or the storm surges on the coast. Phew! it could have been soooo much worse. Be well, Les
@glimpses - I was only three but I certainly remember it. Luckily for us my sister and I were tied around my dad and my other sister was tied around my mum so we didn't fly away. I house was ruined with both ends totally removed. It was Christmas but we didn't celebrate that year! I haven't been back to Darwin since we were evacuated and I don't think I ever will. At least I am here to tell the story! I hope the clean up doesn't take too long.
@cath Ooooh, I never thought of that. Nope, but thanks for playing! It is super-duper macro of an unopened Zinnia. The red is from a flower behind it. Glory be, all is wel here......Les x
@aspada Thank you Amy for checking in. I've seen unopened Zinnias like this a hundred times, but never appreciated their fantastic details until I took this shot. Have a good week, Les
@nicolecampbell OMG!!!! You mean you were IN Darwin?!!! I don't know what to say........that kind of thing can traumatize someone for life. I can't beLIEVE it........actually being tied to your parents so as not to sail off. What a story! I bet a LOT of people never went back to Darwin, and I would be one of them. WOW. Thanks for sharing, Les
@mwarren365 "Green french fries"" NOT!, but thanks for playing! It's a macro of an unopened Zinnia, and the red in the photo is a flower behind it. Be well, Les
