Cerulean Wings by glimpses

Cerulean Wings

This fragrant little flower was attracting lots of Bumblebees, and these mega-Wasps, nearly 2" long. Getting this in macro meant I had to be practically touching him. He was MUCH more difficult to photograph, than other bees, and was very annoyed. (Nope, I didn't get stung.)
I'll be posting older work for a little while because I'm still having a tough time with my shoulder, and I'm still in a soft cast for my thumb and wrist. I have good days, though, so I grab my camera and go!
Such amazing detail Les and the blue wings are so striking. I hope you are on the mend soon. Nic x

@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole, I'm coming along quite well, actually. I only get set back when I do too much, which I have a tendancy to do because I am an impatient patient. LOL Happy weekend to you and yours, Les

@nicolecampbell @glimpses @denisedaly @mwarren365 @anoeska @brumbe @cath @maggie2 Thanks one and all for your generous comments; I'm glad you liked the photo. I love this one, probably because it was far from an easy catch. First of all, these guys move very erratically, (not like Bumblebees) and second, he was so darn huge that it was hard to get all of him in the frame. And then there's the fact that he was intolerant of me nosing right up to him, practiallt touching him, he would take off in an angry buzz BEHIND me. I really thought that this one would get me stung; but nope, lucked out again! Be well, Les

@brumbe Paula, After 25 years of gardening, I have lost my fear of bees; they are just part of the Garden. BUT: there is one little shi... that will send me runnin' for the hills - A White Faced Hornet. They're big, and mean, and will sting you for no reason. I always stay clear of them. Hope you're having a great weekend, Les

@cath Actually Cath, he found me! While I was photographing Bumblebees on those fragrant plants, this guy landed on my camera strap. I just froze until he found the flowers instead of me! But he sure is beautiful, isn't he......Thanks for checking, always wonderful hearing from you, Les

@maggie2 Thanks again so much. I knew I had a good shot of this guy, but I didn't how awesome the detail was until it was up on my computer screen. I love it when that happens; it's like Christmas - surprise!! Hope you're having a great weekend, Les x
