This wonderful antique scale is on it's 3rd generation of use in the same farming family. To me, it is a magnificent slice of history and a testament to how well made things were long ago; they were meant to stand up to heavy use, and meant to last. To Allen, it's owner, it's a treasured family heirloom purchased new by his Grandfather in 1906.

oh i love this i remember playing with my nannys scales that had little weights you had to put on 1 side & then your ingredients etc in the bowl opposite, i played the groccer weighing and bagging up apples & all sorts in her kitchen i loved it, fabulous shot & a happy memory for me x
@purplewitch Ahhhh, Cala, such a charming story! Thank you sooooo much for sharing it with me. I'm glad that this photo made you think of something so memorable and dear. Be very well, Les x
@melaniesavage Hi Melanie, and thanks again.........Pity about this scale is that, you are correct, it's an heirloom, but Allen (71 yrs.) is the last of the family farmers. He said that he's love to see it used and seen by people like me who really appreciate it, but there no one to follow his footsteps. It is a gem, isn't it :-D Be well, Les
