We are all safe, and the house is undamaged. Monday I had one of the worst frights of my life. I awoke at 5:15 A.M. to a mild smell of woodsmoke, not uncommon since several people in the neighborhood use woodstoves. But it quickly became stonger, and I was sure it was from within and not without The Fire Dept. was here in minutes, and roused my neighbors in the house (3 family) who didn't respnd to my hammering and kicking on their doors, and shouts of "Fire!" There were no flames, and actually little smoke. But because of the sheer carelessness of my witless, irresponsible, flakey, sh_t for brains 24 yr old neighbor downstairs, there was a small fire smoldering in her kitchen. Her smoke dectectors didn't go off because of dead batteries.
The firefighters were a marvel to watch; beyond that, I cannot describe. Everything was under control in minutes; no hoses were needed. I've left out what went on, and how I felt - it's over, and I want to put it behind me.
Never in my wildest imaginings when I did a photo shoot at the fire station in July, did I think that I would be needing Chris (pictured) and the entire morning shift. They are my heroes, one and all. It's been hectic and busy since Monday, but things are finally back to nromal, and my home has finally aired out. Again I say, Bless them. xx

Great shot. Responding to a fire does get your adrenalin going. It may have been a different story if you didn't respond. Count yourself as one of those first responders.
Wow Les - what a story. So lucky that you woke up and were able to raise the alarm. I hope you are feeling okay and I hope your neighbour has learnt a lesson re: the fire alarm. We always have a promotion at the start of every season to check the batteries in the fire alarm. We also do fire drills with the girls so they know what to do just in case. Stay safe and I hope you have a calmer weekend. Nic x
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nic for your kind reply. We have a time change here called Daylight Savings Time: Last night, we turned the clocks ahead 1 hr, in the Autumn, you turn them back an hour. This when the public is reminded to change all the batteries in their smoke and CO2 dectectors. Very much like your preparedness with the girls. and thanks, my weekend is grand so far. Take care, Les x
@cindyrez Hi cindy, and thanks for your well wishes. Don't even want to THINK of how else it could have gone; glad it's all behind me. Hope you're having a terrific weekend, Les
So glad you are all safe and well ! How scary and how fortunate that your nose woke you up! What a dreadful experience the neighbours must be very grateful!
@netkonnexion Thanks Damon, and I most heartily agree, our fire and police services are a blessing; there are places in the world where they don't even have them. Though I'd still like to throttle that witless sow of a neighbor who started the whole thing. :-)) All my best, Les
