Watcher

I often lurk on the perimeter of my property, scuttling from bush to bush, concealing myself behind trees and waiting for random strangers to pass by so that I can leap out at them - ideally I'm hoping for one octave above middle C so that I can place an insurance claim for desperately needed new windows, but alas as yet I have had no luck, just a restraining order and a black eye (from a surprisingly vehement and feisty pensioner).

This is the "best" of my Night Shots for the ONS challenge. Not overly happy with it, it would seem that I need to hone my night time photography "skills", mind you this is my first attempt at night photography.

Pensioners can be so violent. You do need to be so careful of them.

@gigiflower it's the walking frames that hurt the most.

Sam
@graemestevens Wait until they come after you on their motorized scooters :)
April 18th, 2014
@gigiflower hurling colostomy bags at me as I try to outrun them...

Sam
@graemestevens Rude buggers! I can only hope you throw the axe that you have hidden in your coat at them.......
April 18th, 2014
love the concept, love the photo and the nightscape, beware of the lurkers
April 18th, 2014
@gigiflower I have a portable flame thrower (surprise surprise) ;)
@oxley63 thank you very much

Aside from your twisted intentions, you'd make a great extra in one of my son's death metal band videos.
Perfectly moody night image!

@unfolding thanks very much...not too sure about death metal, but I'll give anything slightly off key a crack at least once

Love the photo! Looks like a character you might see on the road to Mordor.
April 18th, 2014
What an image, the stuff of nightmares!!!
April 18th, 2014
great low key shot, love the mood.
April 18th, 2014
You may be scarier than me. Great lighting and use of space.
April 18th, 2014
great low key moody capture

Where I'm from, we'd not call this dude a "watcher" but rather a "peeping Tom" which may be why the pensioners are leery. Just sayin'!

Wouldn't work in Texas...our pensioners carry concealed hand guns....;~) Love the photo...and a great first night shot...I use a pen light on shorter exposure night shots to highlight small areas (and to hide it from view)...also found playing with different levels of flash on long exposure (1+ second) also produces multiple layers of light tones. With your studio expertise you will have a blast playing with those!

I like it just enough light to get the details of you lurking.....I bet your neighbours wonder what on earth is going on next door. Flames and folk lurking in the dark, I bet you're the topic of conversation over many a breakfast! ;-)

@georgiat Thank you very much, with feet like mine I'm bound to be hobbit!
@andrewkru Thank you very much
@bigugly Thanks very much...I think ;)
@scolgs Thank you very much
@voiceprintz Point taken, maybe I should stop leaping out at them...
@tasian Thanks and duly noted, appreciated as always
@wearing0 Thank you, I think our neighbours are deeply concerned at this point in the project but there have been no police cal outs yet.

i dunno - i think it's kinda brilliant... love the low light and the lurking face...
April 18th, 2014
This is very dark and sinister - perfect for today's one night stand and your story made me laugh.

Fab light & comp
April 18th, 2014
Very cool...although a bit creepy! Your story made me laugh, too! :>)

@northy Thanks very much
@dh Thank you - I like to make a lady laugh every day. It's usually at me.
@wenbow Thanks
@cailts Thank you very much

@graemestevens added you to my follow list, I thought even if I don't like the photos I'll more than likely get a smile reading the accompanying text :)

Great lighting, very creepy! Cool shot!
April 19th, 2014
That is superbly creepy, glad you don't live near me! Fabulous lighting, just illuminates your face enough to set an eery mood. Wonderful use of the (almost) negative space.
April 19th, 2014
I got a laugh out of your commentary! This shot is fantastic! Talk about capturing a mood!
April 19th, 2014
@archielogical thank you very much!
@johenn thanks very much
@golftragic thanks very much, I'm reasonably certain that most of my neighbours would be glad not to live near me too!
@orangecrush thanks, much appreciated

Yes, the lighting really matches the mood. I haven't tried night photography yet either.

@jess1204 Thanks, I need to do more, it was certainly challenging

Fabulous in so many ways. My dad, walking home one day, noticed a silver Subaru coming down the road. Thinking it was me, he thought he'd play Chaplin or something and dove into the bushes, peeking out as the car drove past. The driver, who was, in fact, not me, was a bit taken aback. Your commentary reminds me of this.
The photo, however, is delicously creepy. Super.
April 23rd, 2014
@louuncouth Thanks so much...and leaping into the bushes like your father is just the sort of thing I'd do!!!

Lou
@graemestevens Good to be among like minds. We've outfitted Gary Larson's "Beware of Doug" to his "Beware of Dad" moments. Sounds like your own daughter understands as well :)
April 23rd, 2014
@louuncouth Both my daughter and my wife are what can only be termed "tolerant and understanding" when it comes to my photographic moods swings!

Lou
@graemestevens Good for them! At least photography can be used as an excuse or at least as an aider and abetter. It's the unrelated shenanigans that get us in trouble.
April 23rd, 2014
@louuncouth the only thing I have to say to that is that words like "shenanigans" should be used more often!
