Bruster is Behind You... by graemestevens

Bruster is Behind You...

Today we went for a romantic stroll through the condemned and defunct Barrett Street Hospital, now home to the homeless, vandals and drug users. As all the building have been boarded up the main "photographers guide" for this venue seems to be "stick camera through hole, push button, hope for the best". That being said, I really like the gritty, dirty feel of this shot...but I have no idea who Bruster is or why he has taken up a position behind you.
Scary,creepy and gritty! Really love this!

scary place! Hope you weren't on your own!
July 9th, 2014
Down and dirty. Great B & W shot!
July 9th, 2014
I like it too.
July 9th, 2014
I love the gritty too - nothing like a romantic stroll through the borderlands
July 9th, 2014
Good gritty urban scene.

I like this shot a lot. My partner is from Detroit. He calls shots like this "ruin porn" I happen to like "ruin porn" quite a bit, regardless.

You really know how to do romance. Lucky wife.
Best way to process this. What a history it must hold.
July 9th, 2014
I have always thought that 'urbex' would be right up your street Graeme... but as I have never seen any from you, I just assumed that that everything is beautiful where you live! I like the idea of stick the camera through a hole and see what you get... nice one, young man.
July 9th, 2014
You do the nicest things! Nice shot and thankfully they weren't behind you
July 9th, 2014
this is cool, I really like the processing. very eerie.

@mzzhope thanks very much
@shepherdmanswife I had my lovely wife @kimkyra with me to defend my virtue from the scavenging vagrants...
@redy4et thanks very much - appreciated
@newbank Thanks. Very restrained of you ;)
@annied Thanks - I do my best to keep the romance alive...
@chippy1402 thank you very much
@jess1204 LOL, love it. Ruin Porn is spot on. Glad you like it
@lleo Thanks very much - I worked here briefly 20 odd years ago and the mother in law lived in the nurses home (which can be seen in @kimkyra album today). Sad to see it gone to ruin.
@vignouse Thanks very much indeed - not everything here is beautiful sadly, but everywhere is like that to some point. We choose to see what we want to and block out the rest sometimes.
@wearing0 Thank you very much, just keeping the romance alive. No sign of anyone, but it did have an element of "I feel watched" about it. A lady we know went in to take photos at night, by herself. No thanks.

@andrewkru thanks very much, appreciated
July 9th, 2014
I'm glad to see that romance isn't dead. My lovely hubby took me for a romantic date to the National Lawnmower Museum.
July 9th, 2014
You sure know how to treat a girl!!! Great shot love the gritty B&W
July 9th, 2014
Shame Graeme, your partner / wife does see some 'interesting' places.
Wonderfully atmospheric shot
July 9th, 2014
@dh We were sorely tempted by the Pencil Museum when we were in Keswick a few years ago. Luckily we found some fresh paint and watched that dry instead...
@denisefuller Thanks very much...I even pointed out some flowers along the way.
@dibzgreasley Thanks very much (it was her idea)

Sam
This is more like it Mr Stevens. I give you a score of 11 out of 10. Even though I'm actually too frightened to even comment on your project anymore!
July 9th, 2014
@gigiflower Ha! I thank you from my infested pit of a heart. But don't be frightened of me...like I said, I laughed so hard I snorted (a little bit of wee may have come out too)
July 9th, 2014
Sam
@graemestevens HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA nothing like an escaped bit of wee!!!! Hope you were wearing your wee pads ;)
July 9th, 2014
@graemestevens How lucky are you - not all partners are so keen to spend ages taking photos, unless they are photographers themselves (speaking from experience here!)
July 9th, 2014
A very seedy place of abode, great image of the dark side Graeme :-)
July 9th, 2014
totally captured the atmosphere. nice work
July 9th, 2014
Fantastic shot! Very moody - perfect for a horror flick!
July 9th, 2014
@gigiflower We have plastic sheets...
@dibzgreasley I'm excessively lucky :)
@hermann thanks very much indeed

@rachelwithey HAHAHAH I love it when people say this - makes me feel less guilty about hijacking people's projects, especially when they are asleep ;)
July 9th, 2014
Great shot, looks like a wonderful place for a romantic stroll.
July 9th, 2014
kk I looked Bruster is not behind me...so he must be behind you....Lovely Grim capture ^^
July 9th, 2014
indeed, very romantic!
July 9th, 2014
LOL, Graeme! A bit freaky, yet hilarious! Glad you two made it out and Bruster didn't bother you! Love the grittiness too!
July 9th, 2014
You've done exactly what I need. This shot is my inspiration for an album cover I have to make for a friend of mine. Thanks. I think I will have to look at all your picts to complete my creation process. Nice shot Graeme.
July 9th, 2014
@rachelwithey It's a weakness of mine, I must work on that
@gigiflower I wasn't asleep...I'm just old enough to need the odd rest...
@ukandie1 Thanks - I always treat my family to the best places
@livvy I hope not, I haven't checked yet though
@blueberry1222 Nothing but the best!
@eyeamlisa Thanks very much - I'm glad we made it out too!

Suitably gritty and eery Graeme. Love it.
July 10th, 2014
I do love the way you made it look very scary great job fav
July 10th, 2014
Wonderful b&w capture very eerie
July 10th, 2014
It's sad after seeing it from the outside in Kim's photo. In saying that, I also love seeing it in this condition. Which of course is a huge contradiction. Glad you escaped Bruster unscathed!
July 10th, 2014
@golftragic thanks very much
@pittcj17 Thanks very much...it didn't take much
@tracelee thanks very much indeed
@tomtom Thanks very much, it is very sad
July 10th, 2014
Love the grittiness of this shot and it sure does look like an eerie place to be!
July 10th, 2014
@lilminimonka thanks very much. It was a bit spooky in parts and I was out without my face paint or matches!
July 10th, 2014
There is something fascinating about abandoned places, love the grittiness. Great shot
July 10th, 2014
This is really amazing as a B&W, even the tilted horizon communicate the depleted feelings of this place, FAV
July 10th, 2014
@dh now that is romance!
July 10th, 2014
@graemestevens too much info. Though it sounds like my unlady like behaviour....
July 10th, 2014
@rachelwithey thank you.
July 10th, 2014
@gigiflower feeling like I missed a party on here last night....
July 10th, 2014
@gigiflower we should never feel guilty....
July 10th, 2014
@roseolivia thanks very much...
@yaorenliu thank you very much...difficult to get a straight line in this place!
@newbank Sigh - I got so excited when I logged in and saw all these notifications. The excitement didn't go away when I saw it was you, but still...that many comments? ;)
July 10th, 2014
Rik
This wonderfully dark and gritty!
July 10th, 2014
@rikshore thanks very much
July 10th, 2014
Looks very isolating and lonely to me! Good find!
July 11th, 2014
@harbie thanks very much
July 11th, 2014
What an intriguing scene -- from the graffiti to the overall grittiness. It really works well.
July 11th, 2014
@taffy Thank you very much
July 11th, 2014
@graemestevens apologies from the depths of my.being. which is.not v deep.
July 11th, 2014
@newbank LOL, you don't need to apologise...you made me excited!
July 11th, 2014
@graemestevens sorry to disappoint...the wrong time of day to find it. I feel like I arrived at party sober when everyone was already comatosed on the floor...
July 11th, 2014
Total sense of abandonment portrayed in this image - fabulous!
July 12th, 2014
@lynnilou Thanks - it's completely empty, desiccated, decimated and vandalised
July 12th, 2014
Brilliant, really… Great find.
July 12th, 2014
@bankmann thanks very much
