Archaeology

I thought I'd dig in the garden this morning to check on the progress of the sheep head that I had buried in there last month (after setting it on fire). There have been some developments in that it now has a vile stench to go with it, along with a rather sheepish grin. After picking it up I get the distinct impression that, like me, the skin and muscle is not far away from just sliding off the bone. Delightful.
Best viewed against the black of course and possibly not at all for those of a delicate disposition.
Cool grin!

@bill_fe He's a happy chappy!
September 6th, 2014
You have plumbed new depths with this one!
September 6th, 2014
@dh I'm not quite at the bottom yet!
September 6th, 2014
"Sheepish" grin... Ha! What else to say? Amazing.
September 6th, 2014
@rosiekerr I know...sorry about that. And thanks very much.
September 6th, 2014
Gross.
September 6th, 2014
In some cultures disturbing a grave is serious sacrilege! I would have had a photo in retort, but I just threw away the charred doll from the other night's sacrifice for your birthday!
September 6th, 2014
Oh Graeme, you are vile, you naughty naughty man,
September 6th, 2014
@eyeamlisa It's even worse when you consider that I had to pull it's lips back to get that grin...
@panthora Burn something anyway!
@rocketman1066 Sometimes I even disgust myself.
September 6th, 2014
You are one sick puppy
September 6th, 2014
It does seem to be happy there. That really must be putting out a stench. It can't be as bad as a dead person though (that hasn't been discovered for a whole that is). That's a smell that sticks with you :)
September 6th, 2014
@terryliv Woof woof.
@karlow75 I've used lime to cover the smell and help with decomposition...as for the dead human, I've only seen fairly fresh ones so I'll have to take your word for it!
September 7th, 2014
I am speechless, much like he or she is.
September 7th, 2014
O...............
September 7th, 2014
Sam
I just vomited up my breakfast!!!
September 7th, 2014
What can I say? I rather skip my comment...
September 7th, 2014
@ukandie1 LOL...nothing at all?
@mzzhope Yep...
@gigiflower Oh oh...did it have mixed vegetables in it?
@anazad511 LOL, I have a feeling that most will...
September 7th, 2014
Sam
@graemestevens YES because it was a juice - apple, carrot, celery and ginger.......which I'm sure just made you vomit!! HAHAHA
September 7th, 2014
the mind, ohhhh, the mind. nice.
September 7th, 2014
on first glance it was "oh what the frick has he done this time?" then I saw that grin and laughed - then reading you pulled the lips back to get it - well that is dedication - oh you are disgusting and that is awesome! hahahaha love it!
September 7th, 2014
All I can think to say is if I did that in our garden the neighbors would call the cops. Also, that thing has tiny teeth.
September 7th, 2014
Only in Kiwiland
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens Yup, that's worse. Morbidly gross.
September 7th, 2014
@gigiflower The only way I would drink that concoction is not.
@bigugly Sorry about that...
@annied I am a disgusting, barbaric heathen.
@spikez It's only a little sheep...or was...or is it still? I guess it still is...
@terryliv That's how we roll...
@eyeamlisa Terribly sorry - won't happen again...
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens and that is why I like you hahahahahahahaha
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens ahahaha have no idea why this came to mind - Graemes version of a hangi/hungi
September 7th, 2014
Should I even ask what u did with the other half of the sheep?
September 7th, 2014
morbid, gross, dramatic. Photo is well composed & b&w is good choice, but simply can't fav this one. And now I have to stay up another hour or so to have a prayer of getting to sleep.
September 7th, 2014
@annied You should see me eat...a hangi....
@nikkilee Sadly I didn't get the rest of it...if I did it would be in the freezer though!
@johenn Question...did you expect anything less from me? ;) And good luck with the sleep...
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens hahahahahahahaha
September 7th, 2014
Yuck!!
September 7th, 2014
Hehe, it does look a bit disgusting, even though it's smiling.
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens "less" is never in the equation with your work. It's all stunning...using all definitions of the word. It is now after 2 AM so I'm not going to look at that thing again, and am signing off for the night.
September 7th, 2014
That actually made me laugh out loud! :P
September 7th, 2014
@golftragic Yep, not nice...
@overalvandaan Hmmm...not the nicest thing I've ever seen. Or dug up for that matter!
@johenn Sweet dreams! And thank you :)
September 7th, 2014
@lisatown Excellent. Pleased to be of service.
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens In a past life I had to deal with quite sufficient dead sheep, thank you.
September 7th, 2014
@golftragic Scroll on, scroll on...I don't want to be responsible for bringing back sheep related memories!
September 7th, 2014
Are you coming back here to UK to take over the butchers?
September 7th, 2014
@newbank Now there's an idea - we'll be back at some point for a holiday but had no visions of a butcher related empire!
September 7th, 2014
How delightful :-)
September 7th, 2014
@jesperani LOL...okay then ;)
September 7th, 2014
Even my 14 year old daughter commented "oh dear Lord what has he done now"! Great black and white though.
September 7th, 2014
@motherjane My reputation precedes me...that can't be good. And thanks :)
September 7th, 2014
Sunday lunch?
September 7th, 2014
@spanner Microwaved and served on toast.
September 7th, 2014
not quite sure I'd describe this as archaeology, more forensics
September 7th, 2014
Trying to think of what to say.........still trying...........unique?
September 7th, 2014
That's lamb off the menu for awhile! (Actually I don't like it anyway :-)) gruesome detail and I look forward to the next instalment!!
September 7th, 2014
Oh I know, but we have nosey neighbors that call the cops if you park in the yard, or your dog barks while in the backyard, I'm guessing a sheep head would possibly give them a heart attack along with a phone call.
September 7th, 2014
My goodness me - this makes a wonderful change from flowers and all things beautiful. Got to follow you now to see the decomposing progress.
September 7th, 2014
Yuck, I can almost smell him here. I feel sick. I'm off to lie down with a cool cloth on my forehead!
September 7th, 2014
is that mud? its a wonderful pic!
September 7th, 2014
Okay...I admit...this is not something that I like seeing. But it is dramatic and artistic and uncomfortable -- all part of being artistic. Can't ever imagine it hanging on a wall, except maybe in a gallery showing controversial art!
September 7th, 2014
Oh my goodness me.......looking at this after scrolling down from a pretty flower was a real shock to the system!! Personally I would rather have the sheeps head but that's just me! Those teeth are just vile.....the smell must be horrendous......I pity your poor unsuspecting neighbours who must think their drains are blocked!
Fantastic experiment though!
September 7th, 2014
@shannejw You're probably right...I'm qualified in neither and didn't want to call it Gardening!
@rachelwithey That should do it...
@wearing0 Thanks - after the stench it will stay buried for a while yet...
@spikez We used to have neighbours like that, then I started setting fire to things...
@jocasta Thanks very much - I'll probably dig it up again in another month and see what's happened!
@ceilidh It was a vile stench to rival them all!
@tatopaz Thanks, it's lying in the wet earth of the garden...and I've buried it again as well so that I can dig it up in another month and see what's changed.
@taffy Thanks, I think. It will never hang on a wall until it's just skull...
@happypat Luckily for my neighbours I've used lime to cover the smell!
September 7th, 2014
blimey...
September 7th, 2014
@jaynspain I know, it's a bit like that...
September 7th, 2014
Chills me to the bone-:)
September 7th, 2014
Oh my Godness, I echo @taffy; not something I enjoy seeing but I can appreciate the artistic value. I also appreciate pics that arouse strong feelings in me, good or bad.
September 7th, 2014
What an experiment ! Sorry but I just finished my meal and ....bwwwwaaaarrkkk !!!
September 7th, 2014
Completely intrigued and would love to find out more.
September 7th, 2014
I hope you never want or need to change jobs Graeme... employers these days usually run an internet search on potential employees... you have been warned.
September 7th, 2014
@joemuli Oh. Sorry. ;)
@susale Thanks...I think. I know what you're saying though.
@cocobella Sorry about that - I hope it wasn't anything too extensive!
@ingrid2101 Thanks - I'll dig it up again in another month and see whats changed!
@vignouse I'll be okay if it's a job at an abattoir!
September 7th, 2014
@graemestevens Sound advice, will do.
September 8th, 2014
Took me a minute to figure out what this was! Nice update. :)
September 8th, 2014
@jess1204 Why thank you...you'd be the only one who spent too long looking at it ;)
September 8th, 2014
Can't wait to see the skull!!!
September 8th, 2014
@creativefool Likewise!
