I think I may be falling in love with this ancient wide angle lens. This was taken at Waiwakaiho, which is pronounced "Why-wa-kai-o" (or, if you prefer, "Why-whack-a-ho") this morning as the tide rolled in.
Other than persisting with "normal" photography and remaining uninspired, other news includes (but is not limited to) the fact that for me tomorrow is Wednesday. This does not apply to a soon to be ex-colleague of mine who, according to his email this morning, is going to call me on Wensday. I do not know which day of the week that is but it does go some way toward explaining why I remain an angry, angry man.
Oh, and as per usual, this looks better on black if you have the time. I suspect that if you have read this far that you have nothing but time.
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
@annied That's a hole in the ground... @lifepause Thank you so much :) @nanderson After 52 other shots I should hope so!!! And thank you :) @kjbadger Thank you very much :)
@annied I sincerely hope that we're still talking about that well. If not, I am completely and utterly done with this conversation. @amyleewinfield Thank you very much - every now and then I can get it right.
@graemestevens your mind is in the gutter - of course the well ;-)
btw - I very much like this image if you had not already realised though I am guessing you did - hope my punctuation isn't turning you homicidal hahahaha
Beautiful shot....angry, angry skies.....perfect to go with your mood! Frankly, I don't blame you....if anybody I was working with was consistently misspelling words I would either kill him or myself, so I am glad you are getting out of there!! BTW, what is it that you do?!
@ukandie1 Thank you very much :) @panthora I have 13 more working days with BOC selling gas and weldig equipment, then I'm off to Dulux :) @annied Me? I'm innocent I tell you! Innocent! Oh, and thank you I guess...I don't want to appear ungrateful...
@bigugly There's plenty of space for us all so don't hesitate. In fact, I haven't seen another person for days... @aecasey Thanks very much :) @northy Yep, me too :)
Great shot and as you said great on black. I find myself making time to read your comments as they make me smile and occasionally chuckle!
I think Wensday comes after Chewsday but precedes Firsday - hope this clarifies things for you... :)
Wow, this lens packs in a lot of cloud drama. Menacing and breath-taking. And .... with all that time on my hands.... I can confirm that it's better on black :)
@vera365 Thank you very much - now if I could just borrow some of your time please ;) @newbank Excellent...I'll have some of your time too please, if I may. And yes, the sea is always calming :) @wenbow Thanks very much :) @dibzgreasley Thank you so much :) This is my favourite kind of day! @alinz Now it all makes sense, especially as I just had "fush & chups" for tea ;) @anthonyt I'm hoping to have some of that sort of time by the end of the week...and thank you very much :) @annied whatevs....
Another great "Normal " shot. With some money obtained from my 40th I got my hands on a wide angle lens (10-20mm). I am a big fan of wide angle lenses. The sky looks awesome on this shot too.
@graemestevens how dare you whatevs me - I am out to get you now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! however - it will have to wait until after I have enjoyed my wine and marked the school work - should that be the other way around ?
Another 'straight' picture! Going by the anger in that sky, I adjudge that you must have laced your corset a tadge too tight today.
I like this and it's a Fav for me but I'm puzzled about your reference to a 'wide-angle' lens - the Exif data says 50mm which is the F/F equivalent of 80mm on your APS-C crop sensor, so a short telephoto?
Ten days will pass quickly... Keep Calm and Drink Wine.
@vignouse It's an ancient Russian made Zenitar 50mm wide angle/fish eye (or so it says on the lens) with an adaptor ring to fit my Canon...so it could be anything I guess, but I do find the results more and more pleasing and it's great fun to use, even if it does weigh almost as much as the camera body. I guess it would be called a "manual" lens as well as all the settings are on the lens itself, so I'm not sure that the exif data can be relied on in this case (could be wrong, probably am). And thanks for the fav and feedback, as always :) @annied I'd have the wine first if it was me... @karlow75 Thanks very much - I'm liking the results the more I use it - I did apply a very light touch of filter in LR...oh, and Happy Birthday :)
@vignouse On further research the lens not only has 50mm stamped on it but 16mm as well - more likely to be 16mm? I can't find a direct link online to it, probably because it's so old and chunky, but I'm thinking that not only is it an oddity but, based on the newer Zenitar lenses, 16mm is more likely.
@graemestevens Hi again Graeme - I found a whole stack of information on this lens on line... there is even a very active Flickr group dedicated to it. It's a 16mm semi-fisheye lens when used on a F/F camera although, in reality, it has a focal length of 14mm in the vertical dimension and 12mm in the horizontal dimension. Taking the mean as 13mm it will be behave on your Canon 1100 as a 21mm rectilinear w/a lens - i.e. essentially a normal wide-angle lens ,but with the usual w/a distortion at the edges.
Hope this helps, and I look forward to seeing more images using it.
@vignouse That does help _ i could seem to find anything but then I was searching 50mm, not 16mm, so that may explain it. It's a great, fun lens to use and everyday is a school day, so thank you very much :) @mothermalarky Thank you very much :) @nicoleterheide Thanks very much indeed :) @shepherdmanswife Thank you kindly, much appreciated :) @mariano Thank you very much :) @888rachel I'm so scared being out there though!!! ;) @annied I only just released this morning what the hell you were on about, but only when I saw your Facebook post. Is it a long quiz then? I quit after 4 questions...
Snap this is where the tides go when they leave Silver Strand ..Thank you for your comment on that , let me reciprocate the fav, for the nice peaks on your waves...
