Speaking of things being reclaimed, in March we're travelling to Auckland with my daughter and one of her awful friends to deliver them to an Ed Sheeran concert. Mrs. S and I have no interest in listening to that ginger twazzock crooning about how love should be and will be off somewhere for dinner instead.
Or at least, that's what we thought until last night when we procured two tickets on the same night to see Big Country, a small collection of Scottish rabble rousers from the 80's & 90's (and one Welshman, since the untimely departure of their lead singer).
Mrs. S and I will therefore reclaim our youth, when we first started courting, complete with memories of too much time spent parked up and snogging in a mini, lying around in the sun at the beach listening to not just Big Country but New Order and Icehouse to boot.
Happy Days.
For those of you unfamiliar with Big Country, it is definitely not "country" but can be found here:
I am a confirmed and certifiable nutbar with a penchant for skulls, bones, blood, guts, fire and anything slightly peculiar and mostly bizarre. I also...
The photo is awesome, so great in b&w with the flowers in color. Very cool! I remember watching the video for “In a Big Country” on MTV in the 80s... it was a really popular song here in the US!
The image is wonderful and I love Big Country. I'm old-school. Fav!
P.S. I'm also a fan of Ed Sheeran and would love to hang out with your daughter and her awful friends and listen to Ed. Sounds like a fun trip!
Love the skull, combined with violet. Excellent. To my delight, I have learned what "twazzock" means, too. "Twat" and "wanker" = twazzock. I shall sneak it into a midwestern sentence at the earliest possible opportunity. :) Party on, you snoggers.
I'm not a big fan of selective colour normally but in this shot it is spot on. Well done and very romantic in a unique way. Have a great time in Auckland. (BTW I wonder if the buyers of your house know what is burried in your backyard. Or if you are busy digging up, all the bones.)
well now I'll start with a fav for the picture , I like yourself can not for the life of me understand the appeal of the twazzock who among his crimes is to included my home town in the name of one of his saggy underpants songs. As regards Big Country I was an admirer although I'd be a bigger fan on the new wave that came before them . Stuart Adamson's death was so sad I remember him as the guitar player in the Skids. Your man from the Alarm is a good fit as his replacement . Have a great time in Auckland and blast out " In a big country" in the car on the way. going to put it on now .
I like the photo, but what I like even more is the addition of a new word to my vocabulary. I'm sure you can guess which one I'll be trying out on my friends and family in the coming days. ;)
Good god man - Big Country are still going??
Still, it's nice to hear Mr Sheeran has probably released his album again.
I heartily approve of the purple by the way.
@lsquared You're welcome ;) @humphreyhippo It took me by surprise as well, as did the purple @juliedduncan I would have thought you knew "reclamation"... ;) @jack4john You poor man, to be associated with that song must be heart breaking....new wave was also quite fabulous... @joansmor Outrageous, see that you educate your good self ;) @domenicododaro At least tomatoes would be useful... @lyndamcg A drink or two...I like your optimism in my restraint... @mona65 I've dug them all up and done a proper "head count"... @rosiekerr I seem to have educated a few people with that word...I like it :) @joysfocus It will be a fun trip, particularly if I can get a clear shot at Ed. @golftragic Indeed. We are delighted. @julzmaioro It certainly works for me and my girlfriend... @northy Either is fine by me :) @hrb73 I still like them, even if they do make me feel so very old...
Oh gawd, unfollow me if you wish, but I quite like the ginger twazzock. But I do remember Big Country and New Order, and I'm half Scottish if that is any kind of redeeming factor :)
@jgpittenger Thanks - this is a perfectly innocent cow skull... @joemuli Thank you kindly :) @suzanne234 I'm half Scottish as well so all is well. @rjb71 I did see that movie...and I'm still a big fan, sadly ;)
the purple flower adornment suits the skull very well. I'm not commenting on the music side of things (except to say that I am taking a listen to Big Country whilst I comment).
I remember seeing them at Hammersmith odeon Just after the first album came out. One of the best live bands I have ever seen...... and still one of my all time fav albums. :)
@peterscherub2 Thanks very much - the connection is more in the title really, but it is about nature reclaiming the skull and me reclaiming my misspent youth...or at least making some vain attempt to do so. Then again, there may be no connection at all.
P.S. I'm also a fan of Ed Sheeran and would love to hang out with your daughter and her awful friends and listen to Ed. Sounds like a fun trip!
