Afternoon Mourning by grammyn

Afternoon Mourning

This Mourning Dove flew into the tree in my backyard as I was shooting my artist's challenge shot so he became my subject for the main album!
I love bird shots. This is a beauty!

This is stunning! I love the clarity, the composition and the simplicity if the bare tree branches! Well done, sister! !:)

How the heck did you get this close and not have it fly away???? Or did you crop the shot?? Curious minds want to know. Lovely capture, Katy!

I think that these doves are so beautiful . . you've captured his soft colors and velvet looking textures. Wonderful pov, Katy. He's so alert and seems to be aware of his "fifteen minutes of fame!"

@cimes1 Thanks, Carol and thanks for the follow as well! May I ask what made you decide to follow?

@debsphotos I have an incredible zoom on my camera . I was about 20-30 feet away and just zoomed in. He did sit still while I leaned against the shed to steady myself a little and flew off after I took three shots

@debsphotos I forgot to thank you Debbie for you exuberance and kind words!

@karenann ;~} Thanks very much, KarenAnn. He WAS watching me and flew off after only a couple of shots.

This is a beautiful shot of this dove, Katy. The detail is incredible. I have yet to get a good photo of one in our backyard but do not have the zoom capability that you do. I am looking at getting a new camera and started researching this one on Amazon after seeing it at Target and wanting to buy it but there is a negative review about night shots. Just curious if you have problems with your camera and hope you do not mind me asking as all I see are fantastic shots that you take? Thanks in advance.

Good capture.

@jayberg Thanks so much, Jay. The sky was a HA. (happy accident) I was so intent on getting him in the frame that I really didn't think about that until I saw it on the computer later.

@kimfaria I felt a little bit the same way,Kim. Thank you so much.

@darsphotos http://365project.org/grammyn/365/2011-07-22 This is one I took with my old camera. The distance was only about 10or15 feet more than this shot.. The only problem I have with my camera is BEHIND the viewfinder! ;~} (that would be me) I still haven't even learned all the things it will do let alone actually tried them all! I got it in December and love it. A good zoom was essential for me and this one has it! There are lots of other features that were what I wanted and didn't even know I wanted them at the time I got it. I highly recommend it. I have been very happy with it. Thank you so much for all your kind comments, Darlene.

@tobbs Thanks so much, John. I am glad you like it!

love this. The doves are so gentle. I have often tried getting shots of them on the ground. I never have seen one in a tree. On the ground they blend right in- too much. This is awesome

@jpvona Thanks so much, Jill. I really appreciate it!

Wonderful capture and colours Katy! Have a couple that sit on our windowsills but they are camera shy!

Love the details on this dove, we had a dove built a nest in a wooden box we had last year. I was surprised she did this several times.
February 18th, 2012
@myhrhelper Thanks,Kathy. How fun to have the nest. Did you get to see the babies?
February 18th, 2012
Fabulous close up
February 19th, 2012
Good capture! As Debbie said, how could you be so close?
February 19th, 2012
I love these! There are a few near my school, but they sit SO high up in a skyscraper tree, I can barely get a shot of them at all. I love the colors of their feathers. Nice capture.

@peterdegraaff I really appreciate it,Peter. Thanks.
February 19th, 2012
