I was loading some plants in my truck and noticed this huge "leaf" on one of them. He was limping along the branch. I let him crawl on my hand for a better shot of him and then placed him in what I hope was a safe spot. When I went back later he was gone! I believe this is a male Luna moth.
@marilyn LMAO! Katy, love the macro of the moth. Putting the other image up makes it great! I love that I can see what the moth looks like. He (LMAO) is handsome! FAV
@deburahiru Thank you so much, Deb! I had both images that were so different and couldn't decide which to use. Glad you like how I decided to show them both! Thank you VERY much for the FAV! The male has bigger antennae
@silverlight Thanks, Cheryl! I really was very fascinated by him because I don't think I have ever seen one here before!.. 365 Is causing me to focus on my surrounding a lot more for sure!
@anazad511 at first I was confused by what you meant ! It took a moment for me to realize what you were talking about and I am happy to clarify! they are very unusual aren't they?
@onie You have mirrored my thoughts exactly. Initially I thought he was a leaf. I had to look twice and then I was so excited to see it! OF course my second thought after I questioned the reality of his existence was I need to get a picture of that.
Cool shot, Vee! That does look like the moth that was on my porch last night. I have never seen one. It was really big. It was dark and the only light I had was the light under the eves.
OMG! You are so lucky! I have not seen one in years! We grew up on a mountain in the country and had a security light on a pole by our house and drive. Luna moths were always swooping around! I wish I could see one! Fav!
Holy bleep!!! I almost let out a very naughty word! LOL
Katy, that's not a moth, that's a BIRD. ;-)
I've NEVER in my life seen such a thing! He really is a stunner. I LOVE the feathery antennae on this fascinating critter.
I got a good giggle regarding moth balls. :-0
A quick Google told me that they only live for about 1 week, and the adult moths emerge from the cocoon solely to mate.
Thanks for adding something else to my 365 education. The collage was a perfect way to show off the wonderousness of him.
Spell check doesn't like wonderousness, but that's too bad.
I LOVE reading your comments!!! I am so glad you like this shot and the way I processed it. Now YOU have educated me because I didn't know all the info you passed here.
BTW I love wonderousness ! ;~}
