Midnight mass followed by meat pies at home and then open presents and fall into bed near daybreak is our family tradition when all the family gathers for Christmas. This was supposed to be the year for that. The family didn't gather this year because I wasn't up to it but Phil and I still followed the tradition a little.
Our daughter made the pie and froze it for us when she came after my accident. All I had to do was put it in the oven. It is delicious too. We didn't do the presents last night because I was too tired but after we opened them this morning we had more pie for breakfast! Yum.
Merry Christmas to my 365 family!!
@kbird61@sunnygreenwood@mikegifford You are too fast for me I didn't even get my description written!! (; thanks so much especially for the follow, Anne.
Merry, Merry Christmas. This looks really good. Rest up and those old traditions will be back in your life soon, my prayer for you this Christmas Season.
Looks yummy, Katy. So glad your daughter did this for you and your husband. It is wonderful to see you posting and amazing that you are. Merry Christmas Katy.
@grammyn You truly bring tears to my eyes, Katy. You mean a lot to me and so many of us that have become friends with you through 365. Take care and take it slow. Hugs!
Glad to see you have your head on straight and didn't try to overdue. I know I know but you need to smile... Thank God the tradition will continue .... Keep up the good work recovering . Merry Christmas my friend !!!!
Hi Katy! That meat pie looks HEAVENLY and your daughter was an angel to make it and leave it for you. Merry Christmas to you, Phil, your family, your Stu, from Dan, me, and my minions. Hahaha
@lesip Lol! Actually it isn't on straight. When he screwed those spikes into my skull my head was turned a bit to my right so I am constantly having to turn my body to see in front of me! What a nuisance! Thanks a bunch for all you do and say, Leslie.
@jayberg I am feeling lots better. Thanks. We have been doing this for so many years that it doesn't seem weird to me to eat it for breakfast. It is kind of like hash browns and meat but all in one package.
Meat pies for breakfast sounds like a good tradition to me! Hope you had a lovely day Katy, and how glad we all are that you are here to celebrate Christmas.
I'm so glad you were able to enjoy a pared down version of your traditional celebration. How kind of your daughter to think into the future and get the meat pie prepared ahead of time.
I know your plate is full (not of meat pie, but full of getting stronger and healthier), but at some point in the distant future, I'd love to have the recipe...unless it's a family secret. In that case, forget I asked. Mum's the word! ;-)
Just think next Christmas you will look back on all this and say...remember. Glad you still had a mini celebration. Happy holidays and all the best for 2014! Cosy shot!
I think we both had different Christmases this year. What lovely traditions with your family and meat pie sounds yummy. Happy late Christmas my dear friend.
@pasadenarose I do a pared down version of the tourtière recipes you can find on line. Ground beef, onions, mashed potatoes, seasoning salt put into a pie crust and baked at 400 for about 25 minutes. Cook the beef and onions first. Simple but so good. You can find more complicated recipes on line, though.
I saw the pie in Phil's post.....wow it does look yummy...we always eat spare puddings for breakfast!!!! I'm so happy that you managed to both uphold and adapt your traditions! xx
@grammyn Oh I do but they are just not the same! The one's back in Lancashire have a certain pastry, hotwater crust probably very stodgy and very yummy:0)

Being from Lancashire (UK) I love a meat and potato pie, can not get them where I live now:0(
What are spare puddings? Leftovers?
