The Most Spills by grammyn

The Most Spills

This cookbook is almost 50 years old.
It started out like an encyclopedia for me whe I first got married. Now I mostly use it to get exact measurements for some recipes that I only occasionallty use.

I remember reading a story once (whose details I have mostly forgotten) about a lady who passed away and someone prepared a holiday meal using her recipe book. As they sat down to eat someone commented that it was all their favorite foods and wanted to know how the cook knew what to prepare! She said "It was easy, I just used the recipes that had the most spills on them!" I often think of that story when I use my recipe book.
So funny! I have a cookbook just about as old. And it is in probably worse shape! Nice idea for a shot.

true about the page with the most spills. my few cookbooks have similar pages because you can't find all the easy but good recipes in just one cookbook. so what are you making? pecan pie?

I so enjoy old cookbooks - have a nice collection that I've found over the last several years mostly at thrift stores. I especially like the ones with handwritten notes and forgotten grocery lists tucked between the pages. Nice pic - hope your pie turns out well.

Nice capture. That cookbook looks familiar.

Hahaha! I think we pulled the same cookbook out of my mother-in-law's cabinet. It pretty much looked the same way. Very cool shot!

@vega i am with you about the old recipe books! I have a few like that too. Thanks for taking the time to view and comment! There was a little extra ingredients left over so I cooked them in a small tin and ate it already! It turned out great! ;~}

Indeed, the pages with the most spills will be the favourites. What a lovely image and narrative. Fav.

Awesome shot! My pie crust page looks like I have rolled out the pie crusts on it! And all my favorite recipe pages look just like yours... lots of spills. I like @vickisfotos idea that it's samples of her favorites on those pages! :)
