When I first saw him at the feeder I though he was a wren but after seeing him closer up in the view finder I think he is a house finch! I like the little cap of red
Awww, love these little guys! It almost looks like they've spilled red juice on their heads! :) We have them around here as well, but won't start seeing them till spring. Great capture...so much detail on his face!
would you believe it? this is the third living thing i saw today with red hair? a woman, clearly in her 60's was wearing mini-skirt, bare legs that were bigger than mine and boots that went "querk! querk! querk!" and her hair? highlights of SCARLET RED! i could've forgiven the hair, the mini-skirt not so, especially that it kept creeping up her thighs that almost rendered my eyes blind. she was so big she was blocking my view. at least the second person was a young person so i could excuse that. and then this bird. :-) great shot, my friend!
Yes, I'm pretty sure you're right. I always get the Purple Finch and the House Finch mixed up because of the streaks and similar coloring. Cute little fellow and nice shot!
