Our chickens at my husband's store were attacked by coyotes a while back and only two survived. We decided to bring them to our house where my husband and a friend built a small coop area in a shed. He built them a nice nesting box too but they have had other ideas. For some reason they like to lay their eggs in a corner of the patio under the stairs so I get to practice agility moves to get them everyday!
@olivetreeann I have been trying to figure that very thing out. The coop is warm and dry… It seems perfect to me! @tunia it really isn't! Cold hard bricks just don't seem that inviting to me!
when i was a little girl i refused to eat the eggs that our chickens laid, as i accidentally saw a few of them one day laying their eggs. i told my mother that i didn't want to eat something that came out of the chicken's ass as that's the same place i knew their excretions come out. needless to say i got a good beating and no sympathy when i got so hungry but still refused to eat the egg. :-D
@nicolecampbell the loss of the others was very sad but these two are plenty enough for us to keep up with. @summerfield I have often thought whoever tried the first egg must have been very brave or very hungry because of just what you wrote! @bill_fe LOL! For most of the people where you live they probably do!
