My Christmas Shrine To My Parents by grammyn

My Christmas Shrine To My Parents

This is the second year without either one of my parents and it is still a little difficult to realize. When Mom died in '15 I use thread and fabric from her sewing room to make the yellow gingham stars for all the family members. The next year when Daddy died l used some sagebrush branches of his to cut out the ornament on the far left. I also crushed all their glass ornaments and fill balls like you see at the top for everyone. The little stocking in the middle was made by Mom so-o-o many years ago and you can see another just like it here http://365project.org/wyomingsis/365/2018-11-30 Actually you can see all of these same ornaments there if you look closely
It makes the tree more beautiful when it’s decorated with ornaments that have meaning for you and your family, doesn’t it?

It will be nice to explain to your own family what your parents meant and especially at Christmas. A very pretty idea with the glass ornaments but it must have been hard to not only crush physically but with the thought as well!

Sweet memories and they look so pretty on the tree. I miss having a tree. I am usually the one who puts it up, decorates it and takes it down, but since we've been away for the last 6 years or so, it's just been too much for me to do it by myself. That also makes me miss my sons as they used to help me out. At least I have the mantle decorated and some of the table tops. Pretty ornaments!

Adjusting to such losses is very difficult, truthfully we never really adjust

@mcsiegle @365projectorgjenfurj @linnypinny @maggiemae @francoise @ludwigsdiana @gijsje @louannwarren @summerfield @tunia @olivetreeann @jo38 @digitalrn @Dawn I really appreciate all your kind comments. My Christmas tree will never be fashionably decorative because it is covered with ornaments like this that were made by my children in kindergarten, or by THEIR children, or from a friend who has since passed away and gave me an ornament when he knew he was dying so I wouldn't "forget" him, or by neighbors form where we used to live and so on. Every Christmas when l decorate my tree it is a walk down memory lane and l wouldn't have it any other way. High fashion trees are for people who haven't lived. You have all now become a part of that for me as I will remember all your kind comments in the future. Thanks so much for sharing with me

@maggiemae they broke rather easily and it was the only way I could think of to get them the 2500 miles from their house to mine. I was afraid they would break anyway if l shipped them and a lot of them really weren't very pretty anymore to be hung as they were. It WAS a little difficult to purposely break them.

@summerfield

@olivetreeann I am almost there too but the kid in me still likes the feel it gives and I have almost always done it myself since the children left so many years ago so l just keep doing it.
