I thought I recognized the seed pods from the photo and only later read its name "Crape Myrtle" We have these all around town here in Texas as well. Lots of different hues available and seem to be pretty drought tolerant. Our nursery guy said that they will continue to bloom all summer if I prune the blossums after they start to go to seed like these in your photo have done.
@otdafot I thought they were in most of the south but didn't want to make a claim I wasn't sure of. They do bloom all summer here and we only cut ours back once. I usually do it in the early Spring.
@maeva No, ma'am. They are the seed pod from a crape myrtle bush. The flowers look a little like lilacs but they aren't anything alike other than that.
