Mistletoe by grammyn

Mistletoe

When I moved to Alabama it fascinated me to see the mistletoe growing in the tree. I always thought it came from plastic bags! ;~} It is very easly seen in the winter when the leaves are off the trees. My husband says they harvest it here by shooting the branch off the tree.
You mean it doesn't come from plastic bags?????! I had NO IDEA! Great pic, & the stuff grows when all the leaves are gone.

Neat!! I had no idea it came from trees!

@sarabryan I just read a little about it and it is a parasite that relies on the host tree for water and nutrients.

Oh my...I never realized, either! Guess I just took for granted that the store just got it in somehow!

Mistletoe toe is a parasite. Hmmm... Makes sense then that it encourages relationships by demanding a kiss when under it! LOL. I like the cut away.

This is so cool! I love the inset with the close-up... and I love the little lesson that came along with it. After reading it, I actually recall hearing or seeing that somewhere before, but I'm sure if someone had asked me I would have said mistletoe was a shrub. :)

@kimfaria Thanks, Kim. I was trying to get a good shot of it so you could tell it was mistletoe and still show how it looks in the trees and instead of doing a regular collage I decided to try this. I'm glad you like it.
January 16th, 2012
@marilyn Wow! Thanks! Read above to Kim. I think lots of people think it is its own plant. The interesting thing to me was it is "planted" by bird droppings. I have never seen anyone shoot it out of the trees for harvest though. I'm not sure about that.

Huh. I had no idea it grew like that, but I did know it was a parasite. I also have no idea why I knew that. Probably some silly trivia game once upon a time! This is a very cleaver presentation! Nice job!
