Ah the great cassette tape, it had most everything going for it, size, it could fit into your pocket making it portable, the two sides of the tape were divided the same as the sides of an album. There were a lot of tape decks on the market to be able to transfer music from an album, the radio or another tape, the golden age of the 'mix tape' had arrived. Deliberations about the sequencing of songs, tempo and genre mixing were endless. Suddenly everyone could be a DJ within the confines of the tape.
Drawback, sound quality, sure it was not so good, but neither were the blown speakers in most the cars I rode in. Leave a cassette in a car over the summer and the case will certainly be warped and the tape brittle.
