Home grown new potatoes. by happypat

Home grown new potatoes.

Harry picked the first of our own potatoes last night for supper. We had them with salmon & salad & of course butter ! I must say they were excellent, there is just something about picking your own vegetables & salad stuff that is special ! Last year which was our first year growing our own we made the mistake of trying everything, even chard which we didn't even know if we liked...big mistake!!! This year we have been more selective just growing early & main crop potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage & stuff we like. I even prefer peas out of the freezer so we haven't even grown them!! The vegie bed is easier to manage & Harry is really into this gardening lark !!
The colors in this photo are great. This garden is great and the scenery behind the garden is beyond GREAT ....i could get totally lost in this lanscape .

What a gorgeous garden, Pat! How wonderful to have such a wonderful selection of veggies right from your backyard...it doesn't get fresher than that! Beautiful shot of the garden and surrounding countryside ~ and Harry!

@jquinn @shutterbugger @peggysirk Thanks for the comments & yes it is a great view ! We used to have milking cows on all the land you can see but when we retired a couple of years ago we sold most of it off & just kept the field you see at the back where we have some chickens.

looks wonderful and though we don't have potatoes in the garden at this house we did at our last one and there is nothing like home grown!

very cool! I've never grown my own potatoes - sounds like a tasty meal you cooked up!

Nice raised bed Pat! You can't beat new potatoes straight from the soil. I'm very selective about what I grow these days as I don't like wasting it and there's always a glut. I like courgettes because they come along steadily and I'm expanding my herb bed.

Wow - your potatoes are much further on than ours. And what a beautiful setting for a vegetable garden.

Love the shot, you must have had more rain in your area, my potatoes are not looking as good as yours, the foliage is looking a bit lacking in water, so I would imagine the potatoes are not growing very well!!

nice one Pat, we do herbs (fennel being the most obscure one), gooseberries, strawberries and rhubarb and some wonderful 'tumbling tomatoes' . We've tried lettuce for the first time this year :)

great shot this - I wish my garden was bigger and sunnier as I'd have a vegetable patch - I grew potatoes in a bin last year and got a great crop. So good to eat fresh! Really like how you've captured this

I'm green with envy at this lovely garden bed set up Pat. Love your raised beds and that sure looks like a healthy crop of potatoes. Obviously no rabbits or possums???

Looks like a good crop, some good eating there for sure and equally good exercise while digging them out. :)

That looks fantastic - puts our little pots of odd herbs and salad to shame! I take it from your write-up you're not a big fan of chard?! Love it!
