I couldn't let the last amazing weekend in Liverpool go past without mentioning these spectacular giant puppets.
All in remembrance of the Titanic it tells the story of this Little Giant Girl who sent a letter to her father on the Titanic & her Giant Uncle who takes the form of a diver & travels under water to reach the girl & her Giant Dog.
The scenes have been amazing as these giants traveled through the streets of Liverpool to reunite with each other. You can just see the girl in the background.
Every night she slept in the park on a deck chair & in the morning she had a shower & changed her clothes & then set off. You could even hear her breathing.
Utterly amazing. Liverpool is my home city and it always gives me a thrill to see the sights I know so well on the screen. I had read about the arrival of the giants on the BBC news site, but this is my first view of them 'in action'. Great shot, Pat.
@sailingmusic Yes Myrna it brought many hundreds into the city estimate more than a quarter of a million people & all the money they spent besides the honour for the people of Liverpool to host this wonderful event !!
I can imagine how vibrant the city must have been with this spectacular going on and you've done well to capture the atmosphere, is that smoke making it misty? I did my degree in Liverpool and started, out teaching there, it's a long time since I visited though, I wish I could have witnessed this!
@judithg@louisefrance@karenann Well I'm afraid I must come clean & tell you I wasn't actually there in person only in spirit. I went & looked up train times rang my friend who is always up for a lark but she couldn't make it & neither could my ''London'' companion so I never got to go !! The trains were very full & only first class left so I dithered whether to go on my own...I think 365 makes you quite adventurous but in the end I stayed home. This photo is off the TV. There is a full programme about the whole experience on BBC1 7.30pm on Wednesday night.
@swilde No Sue this is just how I took it off the TV ...no skill involved whatsoever I'm afraid !! I did think it was rather a stunning shot though, the angle of the diver & the girl & large building in the back ground but I can claim no credit !
@happypat Hi Marg, these puppets came from a French firm & were really incredible, the girl alone was 30 foot high & I really wished I had just gone myself !
