A glorious hot day in May & memorable for the whole village as they were married in the tiny local church & had their reception in the Village Hall all manned by volunteers of the local community.
Cathy & Harry drove in a horse & carriage up our half mile bumpy farm road to the church & then after the marriage service the newly weds went up the hill to the village hall the long way round.
Every one knew each other as Garth & Cathy both lived in this tiny village & went to school together at the local Primary School. Garth is her elder brothers best friend & Garth's parents some of our best friends .
What a happy picture, your daughter looks lovely! I love to hear of a wedding involving the whole community, so special! We had our reception in a church hall in Liverpool with everything done by people from church which we loved!
@louisefrance Sounds just like ours & so intimate when everyone knows each other. We said Cathy could either have a posh hotel with limited numbers or the VH & invite all they wanted so they plumped for the VH & we decked it out with chair covers , awning etc It helped that the weather was so good might have been awkward if it had rained !
That's lovely Pat - I remember this photo from your previous house when we first visited 18 years ago and you told us so much about that lovely village wedding. All such a lovely happy family event and she looks just as lovely in your recent photos as she did that day! xx
Oh what a lovely day and story!! It's like Larkrise to Candleford! It's extra special getting married in the church you 'grew up in'. I did and lots of neighbours came to have a watch at the back which was lovely. Of course the Stafford contingent were all foreigners!
@phil_howcroft Yes I hope so too Phil & it doesn't need to have things all posh & expensive to make a memorable 'do' sometimes it's the '' difference'' that makes it stand out !!
@judithg Yes it was a little like Larkrise as they traveled up the hill from Inglewhite to Whitechapel, the next village !!!! Never thought of that before !!!! Yours sounds a lovely family do too, nothing like having people that you know around you on your special day !
ah, heavy sigh Pat - this sounds like an episode off one of those lovely English tv series. What a perfect day for your little community. They look really happy - and I'm guessing they are just as happy today. How lovely that they were childhood sweethearts. Hope they have a lovely celebration for their 20th wedding anniversary.
@murnane They were going to the pictures Marg to see Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Cathy has been revising all day for her final exams. Thank you so much for such lovely comments, it has beeen lovely reminiscing today !
What a lovely narrative and story. They have managed to come ou unscathed in a 20 year old photo. We were married 23 years ago, my hair in mine is so funny, and the size of my glasses!!!!!!
