I took our young visitors back to Blackpool last evening after supper & a big rescue was taking place next to the North Pier.
1 Lifeboat
2 Dinghies
3 Fire engines
2 fire support vans
3 Police vehicles
At least 100 man power
1 Ambulance.
There was a person sitting on the 3rd strut in from the promenade with their legs dangling in the water, two firemen sitting next to this person. The tide was coming higher & higher until the water was almost breaking over their shoulders.
Eventually the firemen persuaded the person to come ashore & it was only then we discovered it was a girl of about 20! She was smiling broadly as she walked past us & into the ambulance.
Quite sad really that for whatever reason she had felt the need to do that. I wouldn't like to think a daughter of mine was driven to doing something so drastic.
I dread to think how much it cost the tax payers of Blackpool !!!
Great shot! What a story. Isn't it a tragedy that someone so young feels so desperate for care! Hope she gets the proper support to move forward positively!
Plenty of shiny machinery, It must have been quite dramatic. I think to reach this point someone must be in an incredibly lonely and desperate place,,,,,,,and yes poor old taxpayers!
Wow - it must have been exciting at the time - and more of an anti-climax than anything else when the girl came out grinning. Just think of all the wasted manpower! Still, a sad situation and I wish her well. You caught the sense of drama very well, Pat - in both pics.
Such a dramatic scene and sad story. So glad that it ended well for all involved. And I hope that the young girl's family sees that she gets some professional help...otherwise next time things might not turn out so well.
Great shot all the same.
