This is the view from the restaurant we went to for a meal last night.
The Shard bridge was originally built in1864 to replace a ferry crossing over the River Wyre & you had to pay a toll to cross it.
It was replaced in 1993 by this new span & is now maintained by the local council & is now free to cross.
We had a lovely meal last night in very nice surroundings & were last to leave !!!!
@cdonohoue Thank you very much Cathy for the fave. @bpaquette A lovely meal in a new place & I was impressed! @louisefrance Thank s Louise we were sitting in the conservatory so the view was lovely.
I hope the food was as super as the view, wonderful light reflecting on the water, just idylic :) hoorah for free river crossings, my Husband uses the Dartford crossing over the Thames estuary between Kent and Essex most days, and the cost is quite scandalous!!!
@cleanfreak We have another toll bridge a mile away which we have to use if we want to cross this river. The cost is 50p for a car 10p for a bike & used to be 70p for a tractor but not sure what that went up to. It does mount up horribly if you have to use them regularly.
I have the owner of it to stay when she comes for business & the insurance of these bridges is massive plus the manning of them at the pay kiosk so not all profit.
@digitalrn This is a tidal river Rick, the mouth of the river & it runs into the sea north of Blackpool at Fleetwood & the same river that runs near our place. Sometimes it is very high tide & so then it's very wide.
