Last of the maize! by happypat

Last of the maize!

This is the very last field of maize to be harvested.
They got it in quite well considering the ground was so wet. The tractor at the rear of the trailer had a wide board on the back which he placed up to the trailer & pushed the whole thing along so they wouldn't get stuck. It worked very well.

Three good things:
1. Now they have finished in the fields the lane will be cleaner & we can all get our cars cleaned.
2. My new lens arrived late last night!
3. A night in in front of the fire.
Is it any good Pat, a lot of farmers round here have had to ditch theirs.

Super shot too!

@seanoneill Well it was very dry but that is good they say as the sugars are stored more in the dried husks. Quite a good crop considering maize hasn't done well this year. This photo is taken just the other end of our garden.

I was looking at the maize during our Airfield walk - they seem to have harvested most but there was a boggy corner they had completely given up on. I was saying to Nigel that that was good compared to a lot of places. Glad to see they've managed to salvage this. Good news with the lens - did you use it for this?

Oooo whats the lens? Exciting!! It comes to something when a tractor needs pushing along!! No more excuses for a dirty car then!!

@judithg I did Judith & a much better range of vision, I was able to bring the whole thing much nearer but this is a photo I could have taken with the other as it happens as they were so near. I haven't had the time to go out & try it today yet.

@happypat ha ha me too!!! Think I might order it early so Vivian can hand it over before the day!!!

@fannyb We are being a bit premature with our presents from home this year as we can't very well cart them all over to NZ & then cart them back again so some of us are having headphones for the plane, things like that & then we will buy token things for us while we are away.

A nice capture. I feel sorry for the farmers. We were ankle deep in mud when we went for a walk today.

They still have quite a bit to do the way it looks.

I like the lines of colour here. I did some digging on the allotment today - first time for a month, and the ground was quite easy to dig and surprisingly not too sticky.

@happypat It's done a great job and a decent focal depth in this which is good to know - the shallow DOF is great for lots of things but it's nice to know you can get some depth in a landscape.

Good to see they have managed to harvest the maize in spite of the weather. have a nice cosy evening by the fire

Lovely country farming scene in England!

Marvelous farm shot, Pat. I love that harvest gold color of the maize. I can tell by the ruts in the field that they have some wet ground hampering the process a bit.
So excited for you with that new lens! Expanding your photography horizon...such fun!

@peggysirk Well I have all the tools but now to get to grip with the actual execution of the shots Peggy!
