The stalky remains of last years maize crop peeping through the snow.
This will all be ploughed up this Spring & resown with maize again.
I took the camera for a walk in the fields but was disappointed with pretty much all my shots...I think the ISO was at the wrong setting...would that make a difference?
Three good things:
1. Out for our tea tonight at our daughters. ( No commenting I'm afraid.)
2. I have finished ''Pi'' a little disappointed with the ending but I did really enjoy it. Not everyone's cup of tea mind. Going to start Bend not Break: A Life in Two Worlds by Ping Fu tonight.
3. We were tucked up by the fire during last nights snowstorm & not on the M6!
When I saw the title and the thumbnail, I thought at first it was the graves of the fallen soldiers in France. They do remind me of those war graves. Glad you enjoyed Life of Pi. I heard Ping Fu on Woman's Hour recently and thought her book would be well worth a read. Let me know how you find it.
Love the lines, Pat, and the POV. We have a field like this near our house. My husband saw this up on my computer screen from across the room and thought it was my shot! Perhaps I'll go shoot that field tomorrow!
Well I like this a lot! Which way was your ISO out? I've found when it was cloudy I had to set my camera to over expose quite a bit. We're all grateful for #3!
It looks a lot of work for someone, thats for sure! I find high ISO's make a grainy picture with my camera but I know some cameras can handle high ISOs very well!
Such a wonderful scene of a winter field at rest...at least temporarily. Spring plowing and planting time will be here before long. Love the lines and the overall feel of this shot. Well spotted, Pat! Glad you persevered with Life of Pi and enjoyed it.
I don't think your ISO is a problem here Pat, it's only at 400 so won't produce graininess at this level - snow is tricky to shoot as it's so bright compared to everything else around it. Like all the stalks here - liek that you can still see the plough lines
Great strong lines shot Pat. Looking at your shot and Exif I think that you have a few things here. Assuming that you want the snow to appear whiter, I think that your shutter speed could be slower, and your aperture a bit more open and your ISO a bit lower. I would be looking for an optimum of 1/125 shutter, somewhere between f/8 and f/11 and and ISO of 200.
@seanoneill Thank you Sean for the advice. My shots that day were very dull, this has had work done on it to make it as bright as this. Mind you it was a very glum day. I thought a dull day meant a higher ISO but it didn't seem to work!!!!
