Changing colours

I jumped right in today & made an instant decision to paint the back door.... It has been this dull dark brown wood colour ever since we moved in. When a door is sort of wood colour you never think you can pick another colour as you would normally.
The trouble is where do you stop, shall I continue on into the kitchen part where there are dark wood doors and beams... shall have to have a proper think.
I also painted some window sills so I have really got the bit between my teeth now.

This is not the finished colour, I just happened to have this colour left, I was amazed how well it covered it.
Have been using posh paint F&B on the windows, must say its worth it's money..so easy to use & it doesn't smell. Will have to pick a nice final colour for the door next
Have just read this long rambling tale about painting, you have done very well if you read to the end - sorry to go on!

Three good things:
1. I feel energised into sprucing the place up.
2 . Harry has had his knee injected this afternoon, fingers crossed it's worked this time.
3. An engagement in the family, our nephew got engaged in Paris last week.
Well done you !! I feel so envious-- I used to do all the decorating but nothing has been done in the last three years - so a lot needs doing to freshen the place up -- the trouble is I like it done there and then -- not wait for a painter or craftsman to put me on the list and come months later !
Hope Harry's knee will respond and be better !!

@beryl that's what I'm like Beryl that is why I do things on the spur of the moment....an instant result that's me!

Great story telling photo. Let us know (or see) what colour the door ends up.

Well done for 'getting stuck in' to the painting. I used to love it but not so keen now. It took us ages to decide to have our dark front door and all window frames replaced with pvc white but we love it now - no work!

I love your commentary! Great "ramble" and shot. Your pov and scene really tell a story.

@happysnap thank you Linda...will no doubt have a "finished" picture up on here!

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished door.

Very interested to know about the paint that does not smell, I have an awful time with gloss paint. Like the pov, really gives a job in progress feel.

@claireuk I was pleasantly surprised with this paint...not cheap though...Farrow & Ball you might have heard of it. I wanted a fairly matt finish....it doesn't mellow hardly & dries really quickly...mind you the paint in this photo is B&Q best which is fine but was much more messy than the FB I used inside.

I mean smell!

Well you have been energetic Pat. Whenever I think about painting, I must think about it for awhile before I actually get into doing the job.
June 2nd, 2014
I read right to the end Pat, and yes looking forward to seeing the end result.. great job..

Oh you're on a roll now Pat! That's the trouble when you start - the next door things then look shabby & you have to keep going. I've got some benches to do when I've got some energy back. Hope Harry's knee works - I've got cat claws in mine at the moment - that's not good!

If the paintbrush is being used, you have to keep it going. Harry must trust that you do a good job! Nice to have bright colours on a front door but this is the back door! I'm talking rubbish so take no notice of me!

Fabulous pov to show what you've been doing. Good for you, getting all energized and redecorating!

@maggiemae well it's the door that most people use Maggiemae.......only the B&B use the front door...well most of them! The front door & porch is on my list too!

I've never bought F&B paint before but it sounds good so might give it a try.

You are just like me, I suddenly have an idea and before I plan anything I am straight in there. I think it will look very smart and rather "country living". Love F&B.

LOL - nice one Pat...I know that one...I did the same to my back door last year - managed to get the inside done and it started raining so I couldn't do the outside...I've never got round to doing it!!! (figured I only ever really see the inside so what the heck!!)

PS I've got a bundle of solid days to deliver up in Haydock through June and July - would be great to meet up if we can make it work (even one evening) as I'm "close by"!!!

You made me laugh. Just where do you stop indeed?

I will pay your fare out here if you want to carry on with our painting skills. Our whole house needs painting. It is quite addictive once you get started. I ended up painting the whole house when we lived in Melbourne. Only intended doing the study, but it just went on from there.

@sparkle That would be great Juliette, would love to meet up, can either come to you at Haydock...you can come here for your supper or we can meet in the middle! Message me when you have a couple of slots nearer the time.

Such a busy beaver! It's so great when painting is done, freshens up everything. 😎😎

Wow! This picture looks awesome on black. It would make a super advertisement picture for a paint store.
You have been extremely industrious lately. Well done.
