Winckley Street in Preston is a street I plodded up & down for twelve years of my life.
The school I went to is at the bottom of this road on the right just before the entrance to Avenham Park.
My father had his offices in this street too & I always remember not long after I started school walking out of the door at lunchtime & going to my dad's office.
It must have been a shock when this five year old appeared at the door.....I can't remember there being any fuss about it but I hope my dad was suitably horrified. It goes without saying I was marched straight back!
A lovely little square with a small park in the middle, it is still a lovely part of Preston.
Thank you all for commenting on my photos over the last few days...I have tried to keep up but I know I haven't been as active as I would like. Full up with B&B & generally quite busy then I go tired at night. I do read all your lovely comments even if I don't get to thank you properly.
Three good things:
1. Another visit to town today but the traffic wasn't quite as congested...they are gradually completing all the road improvements.
2. My sister has had her operation & at home recovering.
3. Nails & eyebrows tamed before my holiday!
The straight lines really take your eyes down the street and into the picture -- a really clean and tidy area I love the tall business like buildings to your right -- Just imagine you escaping school and landing in your father's office and only 5yrs old -- what a shock for all concerned !! It's nice to look back on familiar scenes and reminisce --isn't it !
A five year old escapee - isn't it strange how these things happen? As a teacher, it is always so scary when a five year old disappears from the school grounds - usually like you did - on a mission to head for familiar surroundings. Nice shot and commentary about your walk.
I recognised this immediately:0) I use to walk from Penworthan to Preston via Avenham park most weeks, pushing eldest in his pram
Lovely in b&w suits the buildings
It looks a nice safe street to walk down even now! Surely they don't drive their children to school around here? As a five year old, I found the tall school gate too daunting and ran all the way home!
Fantastic shot, excellent in b&w and the person walking in the shot really gives it perspective. Love how your eye is led right into the picture. What a lovely story too.
A mass reply sorry ....have been really bad at replying lately & I know how lovely it is to get a little word back after commenting. Seem to have no time this last week or two.....& I am going to lapse badly in the next few days... Winter comes & I think we have more time ...no excuse I know but I do thank you all for your kind comments.
