Spent time today weeding the potato patch of chickweed, tidying up round the front door and cleaning out the hen house.
I couldn't help but watch the cockerel about his business of grooming & strutting around bossing his womenfolk about.
Then he lay down in the doorway to have a bit of a sunbathe!
Meanwhile the hens were busy, busy, busy laying eggs & scratching around in the grass, it's a man's world.
Three good things!
1: Blessed with the first warm sun we have seen for a while today.
2. Enjoying a book called The Disclaimer that @judithg mentioned & I am loving it!
3. Read the above book most of the afternoon without falling asleep!
Glad you're liking it!! One of our hens is looking a bit 'off' - sitting around puffed up and going to sleep a lot. Had a feel around - crop not huge or anything but they have had access to a lot of grass cuttings.
A lovely account and collage in the life of Mr Cockerel !! You have been busy Pat , and have time for a read ! Had one of my useless days today !! I seem to have them frequently !
What's it about? The book that is, I'm reading a good one got from the library....called The Ruin of Us by Keija Parissinen. Sammys school has new hens, they may make the move out into the outside pen this week, they have been living inside since they hatched in the corridor. We enjoy being on hen duty at the weekend.
He does seem to rule the place...with extra attitude. Love your collage, Pat.
And another book to put on my list. So glad to have a list for summer reading!
A lovely set of images showing the henhouse 'boss'. I love it when you recommend books - I have just finished Shop Girl that you said was good - and I agree.
@beryl I have been busy lately Beryl but have got in the habit of getting up early, amazing how much more you get done! It won't last for ever I can assure you....just that the B&B's have their breakfast very early.
@newbank hens are lovely Ruth...so friendly! The book is a sort of phycological thriller.....not like any other I have read. This woman gets a book sent to her that describes her & something that happened years ago. It tells her what is going to happen to her....a sort of act of revenge book.
@dide The best thing about 365 for me Dianne is the book club! So many good books recommended! You will enjoy this one. A first novel for Renee Knight.
Typical male- gets the ladies to do all the work and lies in the sun! Sounds like me doing the lawns while John watched from inside! However I like doing the lawns - gives me exercise and I don't have to scratch around for food! Good to have a good book that you can really get in to!
Love the collage, but then I love hens. I always enjoy watching the cockerel strut when I visit my sister @kelly2 in Cornwall! Is the book good for book club?
And another book to put on my list. So glad to have a list for summer reading!
Nice to have time to read though!
