The beautiful dry stone walls in Yorkshire are legendary & there were some great examples here in Malham.
Dry stone walling is still a craft being learnt & encouraged today by several dry stone walling societies. We will be seeing some at work at the Westmorland Show when we go on Thursday this week.
Just loved the ladder effect in those fields!
Three good things:
1. A nice long talk to Anthony on NZ Fathers Day this morning.
2. I have done nothing today except watch the Burleigh Horse Trials & Tour of Britain cycle race of which happens to pass within ten miles of us tomorrow.
3. A report showing something we knew all along that farm children are healthier because a peck of dirt strengthens the immune system!
A wonderful landscape Pat -- I simply love this --it makes my heart miss a beat !! The stone walls is reminiscent of the same in the Snowdonia areas of N Wales !
I thoroughly agree with your no 3 a peck of dirt from the country ( without town pollutions ) does one no harm !
I imagine fewer allergies in farm children - desensitised to all the straw and animals and a dose of worms helps as well! I think it's lovely for Monica and Hank to have the foresight to go up North - so many visitors stay in London and they are really missing out on some wonderful places.
A great view of these stone walls, so much work ! I am glad to hear children on farms are more healthy , I can not remember our £ ever having time off school
Lovely countryside and I love dry stone walls. David made one in our garden in Cyprus around a flower bed. ha ha
I agree with a peck of dirt strengthening the immune system. Kids are so sanitised these days. No wonder so many are asthmatic. My Nanna (who came from Yorkshire) used to say 'You have got to eat a ton of muck before you die'
