On our ferry trip from Picton to Wellington yesterday we shared our journey with lots of livestock trucks.
As we looked down from the gangway we could see right into the tops of this cattle wagon. All of the tops were covered with a sort mesh but this one was open to the air, I was surprised they didn't try to to jump out!
We really liked the smell of the cows, took us back to our farming days!
We stopped for fuel somewhere & the wagon was just parked while the driver had a comfort stop, Harry was sorry for the cows still standing up after all that time!
As we left Taupo this morning we called in at @andreajoy at work....couldn't leave Taupo without saying hello!
Great image - one of my boys has driven trucks from the
South Island with cattle - if it is too rough, they don't take the trucks, as it is too tough for the cattle.
We smelled that smell too when we came over on the ferry! I can't say I liked it! One just hopes they were all going to new pastures and I don't mean heavenly pastures!
Had to park my car next to a full stock truck on the ferry that afternoon too. Didn't notice them until we went back to the car to drive off. My thoughts too were wondering how long they were on the truck for, where they came from and where they were going to. They were getting a bit stroppy by the end of the journey.
Yes, they do look like they are cramped together but they actually travel better when they can lean on each other for support. Truckers like a full load like this because the load stays solid and the cows like it as well.
BTW - these dairy cows look in great shape - they are naturally very bony with hips sticking out.
