Harry & I went off to Blackpool early this morning. Had to beat the crowds! Why a retired couple had to chose a very hot Sunday when the visitors were pouring into visit I have no idea but we made it before the crowds.
As M&S didn't open until 10.30am we sat on the steps on the promenade for half an hour.
It was delightful, Blackpool was just waking up, donkeys arriving, sand sweeper sweeping, tide going out, families picking their spot on the sands plus a slight breeze!
Two hours later it was horrendous!
Cars waiting in line to grab our car park space & a long queue into Blackpool off the motorway.
We passed a crash on the other side, those poor visitors had no idea they were driving towards a rather long queue behind it.
We were glad to get home.
Three good things:
1. A new 4.5 tog duvet!
2. A sunny golden beach without any visitors!
3. The donkey man was stroking his donkeys & when he took a little girl for a ride two or three followed him. I think they loved him which is always encouraging! I'm always worried donkeys don't have a good life but I think these did.
Nice to be there before the crowds arrived! A lovely wide beach with donkey rides - sounds marvellous in those high temperatures that you have been having!
It all looks quiet on the beach at the moment. I remember the queues to the seaside in summer in the UK. It always used to take us much longer to travel there and back home again than the time we actually had on the beach.
I used to love the donkey rides.
@lyndamcg It was finding a parking place when you got there too! Harry couldn't wait to get away! I have to go back in next few days to pick up some trousers! Will be fine on a weekday!
@jgpittenger horseback riding is more grown up but donkeys are perfect fir Blackpool. Plus if you could ever find any space to even have a donkey ride later in day it would be a miracle! 😵
@dkbarnett Not many people there as it was around 10am on a Sunday morning but an hour made a massive difference! I was dying to go a detour on way back to car to check the beach out again but Harry was having none of it!!
@newbank just googled & I see they do have 1tog at Dunhelm, I'm amazed I have never heard of a 1 tog duvet! My 4.5 is very light, was even wondering if I should have got a 7.5! Wish I had looked further in the shop now but I had Harry with me desperate to get home, you know how it is!
@happypat I do!! I normally shop alone...! I got mine from Amazon. 100% cotton. We spent the winter under a 4.5tog with the heating off and the window open. Summer is 1 tog and fans on!
I used to love the donkey rides.
