Harry & I have not had a proper fire since last March/April.
We have gas CH where we are now with an imitation electric fire, we are lovely & warm but it’s not the same!
Lydia was home for Christmas Day. She has had her vaccination like Harry, and a test the day before she came home... strange the oldest & the youngest been vaccinated. Harry because he is the age & Lydia because she is a Speech Therapist with the NHS.
We were very socially aware & sat with space between & the sliding doors open a couple of inches..we left fairly soon after dark.
A lovely family day!
We spoke to all the family in NZ, lovely to see their presents piled up under the tree & so excited,
Had a good face time chat with family in South Island, new grandparents visiting their first grandchild & our proper look at out new great granddaughter Nina.
Three good things:
1. A long walk before Storm Bella arrives this afternoon.
2. We have been sitting reading & watching TV all afternoon.
3. A seafood treat from TOTI at home for Boxing Day lunch.
Nice that you were able to visit at Christmas. Although we don’t have a real fire, I do agree that the warmth and ambiance from them are so lovely. Isn’t it lovely that technology allows you to ‘be’ with NZ family.
Looks great Pat , but for me the simplicity of central heating and electric fires suit me better these days ! Nice to be able to be in touch with the family in NZ . a Lazy afternoon here too !!
Looks cosy. I love our woodburner fire too, but central heating and a gas fire are much easier to handle I suppose. We don't need much heating here in Australia.
How lovely to see and read all about your day with your family.
I know what you mean about a real fire. We have a lovely electric fire in the lounge but recalling the real fire at Mum and Dad's house is a joy. Can't even drive up for a few days at the moment even though it's vacant!!!
But no work involved in electric one!!
@sarah19@maggiemae Yes I have to agree with you re a real fire & out architects has told us we won’t need a wood burner but we are having one in the corner of the main room. Harry is adamant he wants one but we don’t need to light it every day. I do like that radiant heat myself & think it looks cosy. Harry loves messing with wood so it will be his job!
Gas heating is very easy & convenient & if it was up to me alone I might have one if those fancy gas fires with a proper flame but as long as I haven’t to clean it out I’m keen on a wood burner too. It won’t be on only when it’s cold I bet..this will be a very warm house!
We have long winters here in the UK so a fire is on more than you think although our youngest son in Taupo have theirs on lots, he takes after his dad that way but the oldest son has other forms of heating in their house & don’t seem to light the wood burner, they might when it gets cold again.
Lovey shot. Looks so warm and cosy. Our climate is so different to what you have there, temperatures never fall below 10C, and the sun is out the greater part of the year.

Lydia is enjoying the proper fire too while she back home for Christmas!
Yes it was, a good walk & then a guilt free lazy afternoon!
