Unloved

This small bungalow was the home of a single elderly man. He used to keep the village clean, I think what’s called a lengthsman.
Geoffrey was his name & he lived in this house without electricity & water until he was forced out by the health & social people I think.
I have no idea where he’s gone now but you certainly knew he was around you!
It’s just been left to decay & fall down.

Three good things:
1. Lunch out.
2. A cold walk round the village but it did us good.
3. Monday tomorrow, perhaps we might get news of a wood burner fitting! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Well captured and titled - definitely a sad building

How sad that the place has been left. Probably waiting until they can justify knocking it down and building 10 houses!

@albailey Well I suppose as it still belongs to Geoffrey nothing will happen to it until he dies or his social costs need repaying. It’s only big enough for one house & fairly hidden…you can drive past & not notice it.

So sad when an old person neglects himself and property to this extend ! Hope he is well cared for in his last years and will enjoy some care and comfort in modern surroundings ! -- So Sad !!!!!!!!!

A shame to see his house like this. As @beryl says, I hope he is happy, warm and well loved wherever he is.

What a shame. I am sure with renovations it would have made a lovely family home

Most unusual for a house like this to have no running water. I hope the fella is happy wherever he is.

Sad to see a home go to rack and ruin

A totally sad story.

What a sad story. I hope he finally found himself somewhere warm snd cosy!

@happypat I hope someone eventually turns it back into a loved house.

Your title is perfect. So sad.

Great storytelling shot

Very poignant.

Sad when you see buildings left to decay

How is anyone going to know about Geoffrey if no one knows where he is! He might have died years ago! A mystery and a great opportunity for a photo!

A shame the place is in such poor condition. I like it in B&W!

Bless him. I hope Geoffrey has found a comfortable situation…although he might have considered his sagging little bungalow comfortable. Seems if he were to sell the property he would possibly be able to rent a modest place - with utilities - and live out his days in relative comfort. A very good photo for sparking thoughts of the welfare of others…and gratitude for what I am fortunate to have.

Sad story.

A lovely capture of this home through the trees and shrubs. You have described it as sad but I see it differently. Yes, the grass needs mowing and the gardens weeding but the roof line is still straight, the windows are not broken, so I imagine it is still in good shape.
It just needs a bit of TLC (and some plumbing) and it could be a wonderful home again.

Oh my. A sad place, for sure.

Well done in black and white. So forlorn.

I like that you captured the tilted fence
January 10th, 2022
At first look I thought you might have your sights on another renovation project!
I like how you captured so much of the abandoned house and property in one shot.
Hope he is well cared for!

What a shame. Look at those windows! Could still be a beautiful home ... but it would need just a touch of TLC, perhaps?!!!

Terribly sad to just leave it like that. Hate when people are forced out of their homes. He sounds like a character!

@farmreporter I agree Wendy but sadly I think it’s beyond repair. It looks better than it is here. There is a notice on the door saying it’s unsafe & no entry. It would cost far more to repair than rebuild sadly.

A sad story for a lovely picture. Great in b&w.

Sad story and this home looks a doer upper in the future.

I met Geoffrey’s neighbour in Garstang today & asked her about him.
Apparently he moved to Fleetwood but then he moved nearer to Poulton so he’s slowly working his way back. She said there is water & electric but it had been turned off. She said he’s determined to get back & he’s only late sixties! He looks older.

What a wonderful place for someone with the imagination and money to develop!

It sounds like he’s had a hard life.
