This small bungalow was the home of a single elderly man. He used to keep the village clean, I think what’s called a lengthsman.
Geoffrey was his name & he lived in this house without electricity & water until he was forced out by the health & social people I think.
I have no idea where he’s gone now but you certainly knew he was around you!
It’s just been left to decay & fall down.
Three good things:
1. Lunch out.
2. A cold walk round the village but it did us good.
3. Monday tomorrow, perhaps we might get news of a wood burner fitting! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
@albailey Well I suppose as it still belongs to Geoffrey nothing will happen to it until he dies or his social costs need repaying. It’s only big enough for one house & fairly hidden…you can drive past & not notice it.
So sad when an old person neglects himself and property to this extend ! Hope he is well cared for in his last years and will enjoy some care and comfort in modern surroundings ! -- So Sad !!!!!!!!!
Bless him. I hope Geoffrey has found a comfortable situation…although he might have considered his sagging little bungalow comfortable. Seems if he were to sell the property he would possibly be able to rent a modest place - with utilities - and live out his days in relative comfort. A very good photo for sparking thoughts of the welfare of others…and gratitude for what I am fortunate to have.
A lovely capture of this home through the trees and shrubs. You have described it as sad but I see it differently. Yes, the grass needs mowing and the gardens weeding but the roof line is still straight, the windows are not broken, so I imagine it is still in good shape.
It just needs a bit of TLC (and some plumbing) and it could be a wonderful home again.
At first look I thought you might have your sights on another renovation project!
I like how you captured so much of the abandoned house and property in one shot.
Hope he is well cared for!
@farmreporter I agree Wendy but sadly I think it’s beyond repair. It looks better than it is here. There is a notice on the door saying it’s unsafe & no entry. It would cost far more to repair than rebuild sadly.
I met Geoffrey’s neighbour in Garstang today & asked her about him.
Apparently he moved to Fleetwood but then he moved nearer to Poulton so he’s slowly working his way back. She said there is water & electric but it had been turned off. She said he’s determined to get back & he’s only late sixties! He looks older.
