I belong to a walking group & todays walk was round the Slaidburn, Newton area.
Very picturesque with sheep farming the main source of income.
We crossed over the border into the West Riding of Yorkshire & anyone who knows the history of this area knows that the counties of Lancashire & Yorkshire used to be great enemies & once fought each other in the Wars of the Roses.
The red rose of Lancashire & the white rose of Yorkshire but of course we are all friends now!!
What a marvelous capture, Pat! Love the cow shot, not to mention the lush and beautiful countryside. This girl looks like she would like to join your walking group. I also like the interesting bit of history in your narrative. Wonderful post!
Oh - are we supposed to be friends??!! We used to go to Harrogate Flower Show when I was little and we always took my granddad who used to suck in his breath as we crossed the border and say, 'Careful girls, they speak a different language over here.' Of course we believed him! I loved the Harrogate Show mind you!!
Ha ha love Judith's comment!! and she's up in Cambridge too!! We even get undertones down here in the deepest South east!! Love your shot just love the cow,,,,,,,,,,too gorgeous, what a lovely idea a walking group, used to do 3 miles every morning with a girlfriend but somehow don't have the time any more....................
Lovely photo! Reminded me we had visited Slaidburn church one time when in the area as a friend, who moved from Oldmeldrum and died very suddenly soon after moving, is buried in the churchyard there. His children were the same age as ours but lost their dad when they were much too young! It was nice to visit though!
