Country crafts no. 2

The Cumbria Dry Stone Walling Association were demonstrating their skills at the Westmoreland Show.
Instead of hedges some of the fields in Cumbria, Lancashire & Yorkshire are separated by this method of building walls.
Each piece of stone is fitted into place without any mortar but is as firm as a rock when finished....a very skilled art.
As you can imagine the sight of these stone walls in lines across the stunning countryside is very traditional.
Good fences make good neighbors! Great capture

I've always loved fry stone walls. There's something so "satisfying" about them. Lovely catch, Pat.

Oh that is hard work. Those stones get heavy after a short while!! These guys are doing it right - having the younger fellow do the lifting!
