The building on the left of the picture used to be a very busy place & I can remember queuing up here after school to post letters etc.
You went in the main door & in front of you were a whole line of people behind windows, everything in those days was done by the Post Office staff. There were no books of stamps until they put a little stamp machine on the side of the outside wall... progress indeed!
The Post Office is now situated in the centre of town down a narrow street & no one can find it!!
Those seats are all the way round the very large & imposing Cenotaph in Preston Flag Market.
@aslessknownsu Yes you are right Susan the Harris Museum is just a bit further on to the right, might show that tomorrow if nothing better!!! Thank you for your interest.
It is exactly the same here -the original building is grand, the present building is difficult to get at and the staff are rude! They are talking about reducing mail to 3 times a week only!
It's a lovely bit of Preston. They've moved our post office out of a lovely old building into a non- descript one & not you have to take a numbered ticket for one of three options (assisted by a nice man who helps you chose). They you have to wait on the sofas till your number comes up - it's surprisingly stressful as you don't want to miss the call and other people don't pay proper attention! @maggiemae that's terrible!
this is beautiful pat, just be careful , the no waiting sign takes away the 'timeless' feel to the shot ...could u have moved around a bot to avoid it ?
