The Forgotten Pier. by happypat

The Forgotten Pier.

A very odd sight on the beach at St Annes, this stand alone part of the pier used to be the landing jetty for the ferry to Liverpool & Southport.

The pier to nowhere. Very intersesting.

This is super! How strange and lonely it looks, and not a soul there! Love the split of the shot with blue sky and sand with the structure leading into the centre. Great one!

@aglennc @jesperani Thank you both , I had a good tramp across the sands & took a load of dry sand into the rather posh waiting rooms when I collected Harry from his MRI scan!

An open air staging for a summer festival !!! What a shame this solid ? looking structure is so alone, going nowhere, Odd & somewhat eerie Unusual to say the least -- good find Pat

An interesting structure well composed

I wonder how long it's been there - or how much longer it will stand?

@busylady the Pier was extended in 1891 by this bit Judith & it did look very solid today, there were signs banning you from climbing on it of course but considering it will be under water regularly it will last a long time yet!

Interesting; I never knew there was a ferry to St Annes. (from Liverpool that is ...because I'm a Scouser).

@ellida Slighly before your time Graham, in 1883 they started dredging the mouth of the Ribble for better access to the Preston Docks so the pier was abandoned. Think I have got that right...I look it up on Google then forget!!!

Is the tide just that low right now, or is it a permanent situation?

What a strange sight you have presented. It looks so out of place!
Wonderful capture.

How lonely it looks. I love the composition of the shot. It is a pity it is not put to some use.

I do exactly the same, Pat - look up on google then flick to where I want to say something and forget one or two words so its back to google again! I will really have to try harder! This is very interesting!

It looks so lonely. I needs someone to walk on it with a parasol, if only once.
